The first political lawn sign I’ve seen thus far is one of David Parks. He appears to have Winfield Street and Strawberry Hill staked out. Andy Garfunkel signs are also out on Strawberry Hill. One of my roving reporters called in a sighting of a Briggs sign on Grumman ave. Maybe we’ll run a contest on best looking political sign here.

So Turf, how has Briggs conceded if he has lawn signs out?
-
For the record, I’ve had Walter’s signs out starting with the Labor Day BBQ

No sense putting signs out yet. people get sick of looking at them and some suddenly diapear in the dark of night. Its a waste of money to put them out too soon. Political signs are a reminder to people to vote and gives an idea, depending where they are placed gives voters an idea of how their neighbors feel about a candidate. If someone thinks that more lawn signs means more votes they are totally unaware of how people think. A candidate is judged by their perfomance, not how many signs they can litter the lanscape with. I(ts a great idea to have signs strategically place throughout town to let voters know who’s running but not to have one on each and every lawn on each and every street.

Good point#3-Signs don’t tell us what the candidate has done or will do. Check their records and read the papers or if all else fails come to this blog and you’ll certainly get the low down.

What is with that pix of Scott Merrill in the 10 gallon hat? Looks like a cross between Tom Mix & Hobbling Cascade.
-
Looks more like there’s a new Sheriff in town instead of Mayor. But then back in the day, I think the mayor was also sheriff and constable, aqs well as justice of the peace and the judge. So perhaps Mr. Merrill feels he is going to be the new shining star and run the whole town alone!

That or he is in charge of the “Chuck Wagon.”
-
Will they be selling grits, chicken steaks and cornbread at city hall?
-
Texas Chili, Prime Steak, BBQ, Pulled Pork and Ribs.
Strictly a carnivore’s delight. Vegans need not ask for a menu.

enough room to store some of that school stuff in under that hat,,leave it around a family of five will move into it,,
but what about the man, we need someone to fill shoes,,maybe those shoes have crap on them but still we need to fill the shoes,,
always two sides to each story isn’t there,

The mayor will be serving snake oil and Mocciacino…

Indythinker, I would love to agree with you that “A candidate is judged by their perfomance, not how many signs they can litter the lanscape with.”, but there way too many voters that still have the “party line” attitude and that performance is never aknowledged. In other words, onward with the campaigning. Although its rough out there. At least a dozen of my lawn signs have already been vandalized or removed. I would hope that the opposing party doesnt think that this is called positive campaigning and will advise its members to refrain from such activities.

Andy: sorta makes me long for my days in North Carolina. When we were having a problem with our Republican opponents stealing signs, the head of the Teamsters “offerred” to have his 10,000 members gather up signs.
Not another one was touched!
-
Stealing signs is wasteful in the least and against law at most. I would hope that no one would stoop to this kind of behavior. The voters have a right to see who is running. Sorry Andy, but I can tell you it wasn’t me nor anyone I know. If I were to find out that someone did that on what they thought was my behalf I can assure you I would not be a happy camper. I personally wish people would understand what it costs a candidate to buy these signs. I don’t put mine out right away just for that reason. In the past I have had to replace so many signs that it was insane. I just kept wondering if whomever took them thought that by removing my signs that I would simply go away. For anyone who feels the need to remove signs, can you at least drop them on our front lawns and not at the dump? Just so people understand, we are in this because we truly want to be and we know that one or the other will win and we are prepared for the outcome so removing signs will not change the outcome.
-
If lawn signs are so expensive why not just do away with them? Maybe then the voters will actually do some background work and see who is running and who’s best for the job. Then there wouldn’t be such a problem with theft and front lawns would be clean and kept without lining up entire party candidates. Heck, we know the party’s what we need to know is who are the players.
-
Andy, you can put a sign in my lawn.
-
How nice! See Andy, there’s another spot for ya!
Well, let’s make it even, Joanne, you can put yours on mine! I’ll e-mail you with the address. -
Gotta go with Romano on this one. how do we get signs?
-
I would imagine that if you e-mail your candidate they will be happy to drop signs anywhere you like. If they are already elected you can find their e-mail on the city website, if not, call their party chair.

Looks like only 2 people running in town
Park and Garfunkel. Park and Lindstrom belong together and my choice is definately not Garfunkel so I’m all set. That should be easy enough oh, no wait I think I just saw a sign for Briggs , ok so we know he has one vote. Whats with the ethics complaint? sounds like someone really wants that District C seat.
Kydes needs to understand that he isn’t above the ethics laws and needs to abide by the same protocal as everyone else. He seems to dance to his own tune. -
Seems to me that Lindstrom and Park are a good pair for District C. Both of them are the type that will bang on doors when they think that something in East Norwalk is not right.

I think most of the sign stealing / vandalism is done by teenagers who may have limited political motivation. Years ago I installed a closed-circuit camera at the end of Raymond Lane in an effort to stop the almost-weekly destruction of my mailbox. The visibility of the camera stopped the destruction. But I put campaign signs up there, and when I’d come home and find them missing or vandalized, all I’d have to do was rewind the videotape. In every case but one it was teenagers, riding over them with bicycles, kicking them down as they walked by, throwing them over the fence. There’s no question that operatives of both parties occasionally pull down signs, but at least based on what I see on that camera most of it is just deplorable — but standard — teenage vandalism.
