Vets park has been taken over by billowing tents of oysters. Well, not exactly. But the Oyster Festival kicks off tommorow through the week end.
Chris Shays has decided to have a table this year, which means local Republicans will be out in force. Local Dems do not plan on having a table.

From its beginning in 1978, the annual Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival has provided opportunities for area nonprofit organizations to raise funds that are returned to the greater Norwalk community through scholarships, programs and services. Thousands of volunteers from the Norwalk Seaport Association and more than two dozen other non-profits will be working at the 30th annual festival on Sept. 7, 8 and 9.

The Norwalk Health and Welfare Committee Chairwoman Phylis Bolden will be holding a press conference this Friday, September 7, 2007 at 2:30PM in the City Hall Atrium to raise awareness of Sickle-cell disease. Mayor Moccia will read a proclamation recognizing September as National Sickle Cell Awareness Month as well as recognizing two young Norwalkers who succumbed to the disease; Briana Shantel Massey and Chrystal Lynne Mann.
September is Sickle Cell Awareness month, and to that end, the Norwalk Department of Health along with the Sickle Cell Disease Association and the Norwalk Community Health Center is sponsoring a screening event/rally at the South Norwalk Community Center on Thursday September 13, 2007. The event/rally will be between 9:30am and 11:30am.

The PR rolls on, and how fitting since we are talking about Hollywood PR capitol of the world. I always wondered why an Apple store suddenly appeared in Stamford when places like CompUSA closed. The film production industry might be the harbinger. It takes many apples to make a film these days.
“Major studio movies are considering Connecticut right now and hopefully will be here to prep soon,” he said.
Much of filming will take place in Norwalk, Stamford, and the surrounding areas, Segalla said.
A slew of movies — like “In Bloom” and more recently “College Road Trip” and “Old Dogs” — have been recently shot in the city and two more are on the way in mid-September, Segalla said.

Mayor Dick Moccia attended the small ceremony to dedicate and install the hand crafted iron signs that once designated the Silvermine area.
The new signs, identical to the original ones designed by the late cartoonist Clifton Meek, are the result of a two-year restoration project by the Silvermine Community Association’s Gateways and Thresholds Committee.
More than a dozen association members and Mayor Richard Moccia gathered yesterday morning near Broad Street and Silvermine Avenue as the first signpost was installed. When the project is completed, there will be four signs in Norwalk, five in Wilton and seven in New Canaan.

It wasn’t so long go that the federal government threatened to take away NEON’s HeadStart grants and designation. Citing irregularities in accounting, NEON faced the lost of between 60-65% of the agency’s funding in 2001 because of mismanagement. You’d think that the lesson of that era would be fresh on the minds of NEON board members. But no, wild accusations and hot tempers flared during the Wednesday night board meeting.
Throughout the nearly two-hour session, allegations of financial irregularities and a proposal to reduce the board’s 33 seats continued to spark outrage from audience members and some of the 17 board members in attendance.
