Norwalk: Has Kydes Conceded District C Race?
September 2nd, 2007 · 4 Comments
In keeping with the stranger aspects of this municipal election year, Republican council member Nick Kydes has skipped the last 4 Common Council meetings. Heading into the election, this is unheard of. But it’s not just Common Council meetings, he’s also a member of the Building and Land Use Committee and the Planning Committee where he’s had difficulty attending even those meetings.
This can mean only one thing, Kydes is basically conceding the race.
The council meetings he missed include 6/26, 7/10, 7/24 and 8/14. That would be the entire summer meetings.

Norwalk: $1.2 of $4.3 Raised For Farm Creek
September 2nd, 2007 · 11 Comments
The Advocate profiles an article on how the fund raising for Farm Creek is going. $1.2 million is a start, but the window of opportunity may be closing. I wonder about the grant that the the state gave Norwalk for the purchase of the White Barn property. The grant was for $450,000 and since the White Barn property was sold to a private developer who plans to build a school there, what happens to the grant money? Maybe there’s a mechanism to reapply funds for other open space projects.

Norwalk: Ryan Park
September 2nd, 2007 · 9 Comments
The Hour ran a profile on Ryan Park, the distressed urban park in SoNo. The good news; two homeless shleter residents have cleaned the park due to the encouragement of community policing Sgt. Paul Vinett. The bad news; the part missing about who exactly is trashing the park.
Ryan Park is a known drug haven. The drug dealers stretch out onto Woodward ave and can be seen most nights, only a few blocks from the police station hanging out the street waiting for cars to slow down and roll down their windows.
