It is rather puzzling that his campaign manager has been more active in the Himes and Bridgeport mayor’s race than here in Norwalk. But then maybe Matt Wagner (mattw) knows more about how Walter Briggs really feels about running for mayor and so last week we find Wagner attending a Chris Shays press conference. Since the press conference occurred at the Norwalk Inn, so far so good. But then what happened next, certainly has to give Briggs pause.
I pick up from MyLeftNutmeg.com:
Chris Shays’ press briefing from this morning is being televised on CT-N now.
MLN’s own MattW was there and got this very welcome reception from Shays, who likes to see himself as above partisanship and criticizes people who don’t agree with him as overly partisan:
You’re welcome as a Democrat to enjoy the food that we have, but not to ask questions, because you’re
a Democratreally not, not the press.Yep, that’s Chris Shays. Above petty partisanship.
Now the good bloggers over at myleftnutmeg.com have escalated this interchange to all sorts of “macaca moment” hyperbole. They even have a youtube clip, worth watching if you enjoy watching Shays in those classic off-the-cuff rambling rants.
Of course what they don’t mention is that Shays is a strong supporter of Republican Mayor Dick Moccia, and thus when the campaign manager of Moccia’s opponent Walter Briggs, decides to sit in the audience as a blogger, well, its not quite the same as just an innocent partisan blogger asking questions while holding a video camera.
Later in the week we find Brigg’s earnest campaign manager off in Bridgeport, armed with video camera and ready to youtube questions from the public in an upcoming Bridgeport mayoral debate. Yep, you read that right, Bridgeport. Well, I have to admit, the Democratic primary in Bridgeport ranks up there with the Hartford Democratic primary in political drama and intrigue, natural fertile ground for bloggers. But Wagner is not just a blogger, he’s Walter Brigg’s campaign manager. And instead of cruising the streets of Bridgeport, he might want to be making sure that Briggs actually is running a campaign or something. But that’s for Briggs to determine I guess.
I’ll just continue with my premise that Briggs has essentially given up before he started. It doesn’t help that he hasn’t raised any money, held a fundraiser, and has a team of newbie candidates to help him reach out and meet Norwalkers. Then again, maybe Briggs has taken a good look at the incompetence reigning over the BOE and opted to not want to be saddled with trying to fix it.
