Would this be the way a professional construction project maange would leave work sites?

Roton Middle School
What’s missing from this photo? Why the parking spots that would be used by teachers and staff. Maybe it will all be cleaned up by Tuesday.

This is how the BMHS construction was also mismanaged. Teachers and students taught and went to classes in the middle of the construction workers doing the renovations. Seems like this is a common practice for Norwalk contsruction. What will it take before this is stops? I hope not anyone’s livelyhood or life.

Lets mention the contractor who created a emergency at the Ponus school that almost created an explosion behind the school with the underground propane tank that channel 12 reported. The fire dept went in to check for gas buildup in the school upon arrival,

What if the windows were open school full of kids?

so if there had beed kids would there of been any chance they would of been in danger?

Where would the parents be if the Advocate and the Hour actually reported what happened at the Ponus, The story was missing and it wasn’t a minor incident or does the city figure no explosion no problem or was it the fact we are insured ?

what would parents think about the safety of their children?

mistakes happen when in a hurry..I hope this is not a pattern school is in 3 days 1 for teachers their safety does count doesn’t it?

I trust the nails and screws will be swept for tommorrow’s teachers or does Norwalk have a special on tires for the employees?

I’m sure the pony show they gave the new teachers left out these two schools or did they ?

Was there dig safe at the school before the propane gas rupture? Channel 12 did note the gas company was called to shut the tank off,,didn’t the school have the magic decoder ring for this?

the storage boxes,,anything in them that might be a hazard to our children? Or are they going to be gone for opening day grounds cleaned up of waste and unkown fluids around the schools

I trust the dust dirt and chaos won’t be a distraction and I trust all fire exits will be open for the kids and teachers will have places to park.

Now today the school is open workers are buzzing around does this mean taxpayers are paying overtime to school personal or do the contractors have a key as well,,I hope not the fire dept this week alone stood outside two schools waiting to be let in,,no lockboxes again i ask why not?

Radon article in the Advocate today a must read as I said before the Advocate did their homework on the schools , now its time for us to do ours..Lets ask some facts on cost and over runs, now is the time to pick this all apart,,odd how mayor and mayor to be are so removed from all of this,,what is it a mayor actually does in Norwalk? Or what is expected of one after they are elected?

Now the first $17,000 was to test for radon do we now test again where work has been done or do we wait for another year when all the other work seemed not to be a priority has not been completed?

,where some schools were worked on foudations were cracked and building pads were compromised do they now get tested or do we wait until the another report is done?

does the taxpayers ever get the true story or is it written a run a round is the way business must be conducted so none of us know the complete facts..

a Sunday rant , the focus is on school the ball is in your court bloggers..

How many broken promises that the work would get done before school started? Is anyone accountable?

    Are the builders Gilbane?

Nathan Hale and NHS looked like war zones this weekend too - don’t think those schools will be ready for opening day.

By the way, does anyone know the story on the rest rooms at NHS - I heard that the third floor rest rooms are kept locked because of security and the second floor doesn’t work - so there is only one rest room for the whole school. Has this been rectified for the upcoming school year?

    Mr Greenpeace,
Every school has a lock box so I don’t understand why FD was waiting outside.

  • 7 Mr Greenpeace // Aug 26, 2007 at 10:38 pm

then maybe I am wrong Norwalker maybe I was misinformed,,as could be the case, it was probably based on the other spots like the mansion that has none.I could of been misunderstood this fact.

The other question on lock boxes are the ones who don’t have them, will they be made to install them

do all new construction need them for an ocupancy permit, we do have them here in Norwalk correct?
    permits that is?

The propane tank incident with the fire dept sounded serious just the same.I wonder if dig safe was warranted at all at the Ponus school..

    thanks for the clarification Norwalker

    Mr Greenpeace

I believe new construction has lock boxes. They were not digging at Ponus. The ran over the fill neck.I think eye sight tests are warrented for machine operators.

  • 9 Mr Greenpeace // Aug 27, 2007 at 7:41 pm

thanks Norwalker sounds like eye glasses instead of spray paint is whats needed , so in all paracticality it could of happened while school was in session.I wonder do they still give those cover one eye and tell me what you see exams beginning of the school year?

I hope all those construction guys were checked out just like the teachers and bus drivers and grounds keepers and volunteers…

So today was another day where construction was not going to impede learing.

How many calls to the high school so far on County street?

I guess today when the alarm goes off and the school empties and the school returns in session there wasn’t much distrubance. Now when the fire dept reports the alarm is going to be shut off the rest of the day becuase of sprinkler testing, it sounds like the fire dept said not a chance keep the bulding alarmed while our kids are inside good call Norwalk fire. One more reason to back these firefighters.

What the hell is going on people? How could a school dept head make that kinda of call?

The fire dept deserves a thank you once again for going around to those lock boxes I thought wasn’t there today and checking the status,,again we owe these guys another thankyou.I’m sorry for thinking no boxes.

I brought this up before about thanking the fire dept and the men.

The Boston fire dept minutes into a fire last night lost two men, killed when trapped when a 3 ton a/c unit dropped out of the ceiling ,,we don’t sometimes think about our firemen untill you hear of a loss.

Sometimes you don’t think about the school children safety like the Norwalks firemen do so again good job guys and for this idiot of ours running the school stuff thank the firemen yourself they are covering your ass Mr Opdhal too bad they are not making your money.

Mr. Greenpeace- I would like to join you in your praise and thanks to the Norwalk Fire Department. I will thank them for making the right decision to leave the alarm system on for the kids, but not for saving Mr. Opdahl’s ass.

I think we have the present BoE to thank for that! This is just another example of why Mr. Opdahl has to GO! And the present BoE also!
