Norwalk: No Through Trucks

I still have doubts about the validity of the “Thru Truck issue”. Tractor Trailers are one thing, but if the state traffic commissioner apprently made his decision on this:

“I started to get a few e-mails and I ended up this many e-mails, and said, ‘Maybe I’d better take a look at this area before I made a decision,’” said Traffic Commissioner Thomas Davoren, holding up a folder of e-mails Tuesday. “I drove down there last Friday and started early morning. An entire fleet of UPS and FedEx emptied out on (Route) 136 and went right through downtown Rowayton, and I said, ‘This is not good.’”

Well, a fleet of UPS and FedEx trucks emptying out on a Friday morning are called delivery trucks, and those will only go way when people stop getting stuff delivered.

I too have spent many morning stuck behind a fleet of FedEx and UPS trucks on 136. Just like I have spent many mornings stuck behind a fleet of school buses on 136.

We’ll see what happens when December rolls around and the Amazon.com shipments treble.

Now that Duff, Moccia, et al have been successful getting trucks off of 136, let’s see what they can do to get trucks off of our overused side roads. We wouldn’t be having all of these problems with trucks if the roads had kept up with the development.

I drove the length of (Route) 136 from Darien through Norwalk.

The Darien and Rowayton stretches are wide, with ample sidewalks and/or shoulders.

The stretch from the end of MLK through Norwalk is extremely narrow, with tight turns. It also passes past low-income housing full of children.

Yet we are only interested in the welfare of the progeny of those with money. Why is that?

    Oh yeah, money talks!!!

All I wanted was someone to watch a tractor trailor make the corner at Woodward and Burritt, clearly from a standpoint of a vote getting moved the Mayor did his spin. I also pointed out the three stationary scales are on Meadow street that weigh trucks and the trucks that carry overloads go over the Stroffolino bridge.

Yes the ban is in effect the news papers did thier best to deflect the safety from the Meadow st , Woodward ave , Burrit ave, Water street bus stops and amount of children coupled with the fact the street grids are the most narrow on the the truck route.

Now with school starting and the trucks clearly being able to use the other end it should prove to be what it was last year dangerous with more than enough exhaust from the trucks,,again South Norwalk suffers ..The boat yards will be having their end of summer convoys with the state police escorts on water street and the traffic should be once again a nightmare with more trucks.

look at the bust stops and how many are on those streets mentuioned above.

    There is an old saying;

“You never get something for nothing. You might get nothing for something, but you never get something for nothing.”

Now we will see if there is a benefit for something or not.

Just remember. If a truck ORIGINATES or has a destination in a town, no through truck violations don’t apply. Any truck that starts out in norwalk can use 136 as long as they don’t go through darien. .MLK to 136 to Richards AV to Conn AV to I-95. No violation.

“Darien puts out two motorcycle cops. Norwalk has one part-time officer for Rowayton, who does a good job,” Glazer said. But “this is a Norwalk problem that Darien is solving — these trucks all emanate or destinate in Norwalk, and it’s very frustrating if Norwalk won’t carry its share of the burden.”

“Norwalk could enforce it down at their end and get rid of the extra 10 or 15 percent,” Glazer said.

sounds like we could do more,,maybe?

It’s the old blame it on Norwalk story. Let them enforce it, we are following the law as it was written. Shall we ask FedEx and UPS to move out of Norwalk to help Darian? “You never get something for nothing.”

    Live with it………..

the above caption was taken out of context in todays Hour oct 9th by Robert Koch.

But we could use how many more officers to ensure Rowyaton gets taken care of,,why do they have only a part time officer,,damm you find out more from other towns about what Norwalk does,,

what would be the whole story on this any takers to tell me the real deal without me speculating from the grassy knoll? :)

I do agree with you #13 of the miserable 25 , I just like to stir the pot instead of smoking it,,

Its funny what we see on the other side 136 as if we never counted on asking us what we thought,,,,,,but like you said its the busses, trash haulers, Pepperage farm trucks,BFI and all the others that start at 5 am and get through at 6 pm on water, burritt, woodward and meadow that need to be there, now the boats are leaving the yards on water street so expect delays,,we don’t mind they were here before some of us,,all I ever wanted was safety checks here and got no where..

Norwalk can’t enforce anything because there is no viation in Norwalk. As long as thwe truck originates, ends, or has a scheduled stop within a town limit, no thru truck violation does not apply. Since virtually every UPS, FEDEX, or DHL truck starts or ends in Norwalk, they can go up and down 136 in norwalk as much as they want. They are only in violation in Darien if they do not have a stop there. Read the law.

I agree #10 just some people simply didn’t understand that when the party was being held for the ban,,so who was kidding who a few weeks ago?

    no voilations no problems

why should we spend any more money there its over right?
