Back with another one since Anonymous #3 guessed Vet’s Park after the big storm last spring.. Bingo, the reader submitted photo was a crop of the storm flooded Vets Park. So today’s picture is below, and you’ll have to be fairly specific as to where you think it is. Meanwhile for more friday open thread type seasoning, and because its August, we ‘ll run another contest like substance thread. This theme is themes, or more specifically, pick a music theme for each mayoral candidates. You have three candidates; Dick Moccia, Walter Briggs, and Scott Merrel. Song name and artist is fine, if you find a youtube clip of the song, that’s even better. Enjoy the activities or rant about the news in the comments.

Rell Says Public Should Speak at DOT Reform Panel Hearings

Governor Rell has faith that the many Connecticut residents who travel the orads and rails in the state have important ideas about how the DOT needs to be reformed, or fixed. That is an important step in opening up the discussions past the DOT management centric discussions thus far. According the Advocate, a culture of fear, prevented DOT staff from making decisions. A culture of fear? Who came up with this? From the Advocate:

One speaker said intense public scrutiny of DOT employees could have contributed to some of the agency’s failures and indecisiveness the past few years.

Norwalk: Who-hoo Burnett Kicks Away The Rubber Stamp

Times they are a changing over at the BOE. While they still hold secret meetings, at least according to the Amanda Pinot article in The Hour which mentions to email notice only of a meeting that the public was not told about, Greg Burnett held steady and refused to allow educational policy changes to precede without discussion. Greg, talk to Bruce Kimmel about getting items on the agenda. We pick up from Pinto’s story:

The agenda noted the committee would discuss a timeline for full board discussion of several issues. It did not, however, allow for the members — Board Chairwoman Jody Bishop-Pullan, committee Chairwoman Susan Hamilton, Greg Burnett, and Migdalia Rivas — to delve into the specifics of about a half dozen policies.
