I have some ampitheater questions - what’s the genesis of an ampitheater in Vets Park? Whatever happened to the ampitheater in Oyster Shell Park? Who is the consultant doing the study on Vet’s Park and how and why was that company chosen? Thanks.
-
The ampitheatre in Oyster Shell Park is there to see for anyone who is brave enough to walk down the path along the river. The hillside is terraced and the path broadens out into a planked deck stage area with access to the river.
I guess access to the river would be needed so all the sound equipment wouldn’t have to be hauled half a mile down the path and could be brought in by boat instead.
-
there is a picture of that deck in the archives for anyone who hasn’t seen it , I think the owner has it from the blogg.
The day i took a walk there were people living under it, its just not a deck its a work of art for those who have never seen it.It must of cost the city what $25,000 so I’m wrong you have one estimated for your yard and get back to me.Maybe it was donated maybe someone can tell us more.
The building next to it the one that was highlighted in the picture of the week is next to wells or vaults to accomodate I would think recirculation pumps.
I of course don’t know what the building is but the location of it and the other things looked like it could be a typical well drawing contaminants from the waters edge and with the outlay,, pump it back into the landfill so it doesn’t leak into the river. This is a standard way of dealing with contamination and not doing anything but keeping it in its borders.
I’m probaly wrong but if it wasn’t for the deprived vegitation (dead trees and bushes) between the building and the shore line of the river its enough to make a trained eye wonder whats up.
I still ask is the brownfield report ready for us to read have they gone to the parks for any work or is it just the city where there is money to be made..?
My only other thought is when CDM is involved in any city or town it means they are trying to take a dirty parcel of land and make it useable for public use.
I trust no one can’t you tell?
nice thread subject maybe the papers can pick up on this end some of the rumors i have heard about whats under the surfice.I wouldn’t want to be enjoying a concert there and have plume of chemical smell hit me from Kings,,according to the EPA there is a question to its problems there as well next to the deck by a 100 yards or so.
its only a rant people ,,nothing I say can be fact I don’t live at the park. There are no more vacancies.
-
Well, if it’s not Kings you’d be smelling, then it would either be the sewage treatment plant across the river or the transfer station on the other side of 95.
Didn’t know there were people living under the ampitheatre stage. They must have been evicted from under the Water St. entrance stairs to the Maritime Center. Saw them ducking under their one evening while celebrating our anniversary at that restaurant in the new parking garage building, the one that was there before the one that’s there now, remember they got into trouble for having strippers and hookers after hours one night at a private party there.

What happened to the Ethics Committee that was supposed to be formed? Are the parties trying to figure out if it is to their advantage to chair the commission before or after the election?

SECRET NORWALK: IDENTIFY THE PERSON - He works for the schools at the central office. He once worked at the Norwalk YMCA, and it is said that he screwed them up big time. They warned the City and BOE about him but no one listened. He claims to know everything about everything, and there is nothing he claims that he has not done in a school system. He is amazing and he thinks so too. Some people call him the “biggest and best bull crapper” that has ever come to town. He likes to spend our money on anything that suits his fancy. He has twisted the truth when confronted with issues. He is real slippery. He has lied to the City and BOE. He has even lied to his boss. He is no finance director but he keeps four or five sets of books, maybe more. He has no one looking over his shoulder, so he can get away with what ever he wants. He reports to no one and fears no one. He created a kitchen position for a Whitson food tester and filled it with his own sweet little cupcake cooker. He likes used lathes and buying furniture from his friends that no one really needs. He hired a purchasing agent with NO experience. He has done things that most normal people like you and I would get fired for…maybe even investigated. He has broken BOE policies and procedures. He has broken City policy and procedure. He follows few acceptable practices for bidding, purchasing, or aquisitions of goods and services. He has brought disgrace to the school system. He has created an environment of distrust and dishonesty. He is evil. He is arrogant. He is vindictive.

I know it is Friday but something must be said. The story in the Hour about the Gault application once again proves that Diane Lauricella is the “kiss of death” to any effort to approve or reject a project. The moment she rises to speak, she loses the commission or board or the elected officials that she addresses. Can’t anyone stop her from “helping”? She has no credentials, no credibility and she is very, very annoying in all her approaches to these serious community issues. Not to mention that she is not trustworthy (just ask the Cranbury folks). The word gadfly would apply. Her friends need to lock her in her room and keep her away from any important hearing on any issue in the city. She is not helping. She’s the worst spokes person you could every have represent your neighborhood or cause. Wake Up!

As I read the front page of this morning’s Hour, a song by the Red Hot Chili Pepers came to mind: “Give it Away, Give it Away, Give It Away, Now”!
#1 headline: Panel review of fuel farm irks residents. Gault, Inc. has turned into another LLC (Limited Liability Company) and is moving their even larger fuel oil storage facility to Norwalk so they can build Condos on their Wesport property….on the backs of Norwalkers. Give it away!
Who cares about the effect on Norwalk’s enviroment? Who cares about the effect to our roads, our children’s health or even our own for that matter.
Have you ever driven behind a Gualt truck before? Everytime I have, I have to roll up my windows and hope I don’t pass out from their exhaust. Give it away!#2 headline: Illegal student numbers in city schools disputed. Dr. Corda is saying their are only about 6 illegal students in Norwalk. What a big joke. He shout sit on my street and watch all of the illegal students come to school every morning. This isn’t the only “theft of service in Norwalk. Give it away!
#3 headline: Filmakers welcome here officials working to make city inviting. Isn’t it nice that the city is making the permit process a one stop shopping process for the film industry, which will only cost them $5. That’s $5 more than demolishing a house in a historic district and breaking the city codes! Give it away, now!
You only need to read the paper to see how the city officials make our city inviting to all but the the people who LIVE here and pay some of the highest taxes in the country.

Walter Briggs could have prevented the Gault use of property on the industrial siting committee but chose not to do so. He should be blamed for this fiasco.
-
Awwkk! Moccia-bird! Polly wanna mouthpiece!
-
Briggs panders and panders and then points fingers when he can’t get the job done. Where’s that master plan Walter?
-
I found paperwork years ago from meetings and court domain news with Briggs name on it,,any research there would turn up meetings held in the city when the site was just a chemical business closed. This was before remediation,,has anyone connected the dots there maybe he shouldn’t be making decisions at all..maybe a conflict of interest.
Suppose the fire dept passed the size of the water main for firefighting capabilities? Its odd how the chief had no problems with its facility this concerns me.
I have asked what about the Brownfield report has it found another site here in the city that support a tank farm better than Ely ave? I’m disapointed to think we will find out after the tank farm is approved and the election is over. This city should realize timing is everything.
At this rate Oyster Park we could rent for a tank farm nothing less would be safe there next to King. River access and its not near any drinking water source is it?

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS ADVOCATE ARTICLE AND SEE JUST HOW LUCRATIVE THE MOVIE INDUSTRY “REALLY IS TO CONNECTICUT CITIES.” Let’s not trip over our tongues on this rush to big bucks, the taxpayer might be the ones paying for them to film here.

#9 - I totally agree with you. Whenever she gets up to speak, I want to run away screaming. I thinkk she just likes to hear herself talk.
