The Seaport Association is trying to reach out to surrounding towns apparently, as the Village People will headline this year’s Oyster fest.

The Village People will take the Main Stage at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.

In addition, the festival will spotlight talented musicians, dancers and storytellers from throughout the region, hundreds of artists and crafters, a special children’s activity area and amusement rides, food court, recreation and leisure demonstrations, working boats, harbor tours, an Oyster Pavilion, environmental, maritime and other displays.

“We’re looking to make Sunday into some type of anniversary finale,” Snider said. “Mostly, we just want to have a big party where everyone is having a good time.”

The Oyster Festival will take place on Friday, Sept. 7, from 6 - 11:00 p.m., on Saturday Sept. 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Park.

Admission prices at the gate are $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for senior citizens (62 and older) and $3.00 for children ages 5-12. Children younger than five enter free. Tickets can be purchased online at (www.seaport.org), where a $25.00 weekend pass will be available. Advance general admission tickets for $10.00 also will be available at select area banks and businesses. The daily entrance fee includes off-site parking, shuttle busses to and from the festival and all performances at the NSA Oyster Festival.

Singing, “YMCA” the festival is reaching out to Westport and Stamford, who each face unique YMCA issues. “Go West” is for Norwalk though, obviously in reference to the West ave. development project. The only question I have is who is represented by the “Macho Man” song? I’m sure you all will weight on this, and other very slow news days items in the comments.

hey nothing like like watching aging men with their chests and butts hanging out!

Giles or Blue Oyster Cult would have been good,

What happened to the likes of David Sanborn? Where is Bob Dylan? How about Dave Matthews?

Sigh…who makes these choices? Can’t we get them to lsiten to WFUV or PKN for a month or so before deciding on the music? I suppose it’s (once again) money…but Levitt gets good folks, Ridgefield gets interesting music. Why not us?

Because we’re No-walk, dambit, and we don’t deserve any better.

Does the Oyster Festival get paid by “The Village People” to let them perform at the Festival?

  • 10 Anonymous // Jul 31, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Either them or Blah Na Na.

The problem with the Oyster Festival is that they can’t afford the A-tier acts so they have to go with B-level entertainers. Although I’ve seen Joe Walsh, Robert Cray, Little Feat, Marshall Tucker and a couple others I can’t name right now that were worth the admission. Seems like those days are over, though.

Duh! Bring in Gulag Tunes, of course!

(BTW, I like the pricing scheme. Reminds me of when I used to sell stuff at 10 cents each, two for a quarter.)

At least the Norwalk Inn won’t have to worry about out-of-control rockers trashing the motel rooms… just keep a steady supply of Ensure coming from room service.

Hmm. Does the Norwalk Motor Inn even have room service, or is it more like Dial-a-Crank?

Anonymous 4: Or more like Moby, Super Furry Animals, The Walkmen, or The Pixies.

L’arlequino: A -List? THey still make those?

  • 15 Roger McBride // Jul 31, 2007 at 5:34 pm

Who pays for the Depends that the Village People use during the performance?

  • 16 Anonymous // Jul 31, 2007 at 5:41 pm

I thought that at least 2 of the guys from the Village People are dead. Are they going to resurrect them? C-Tier is more like it. Why don’t they get Herb Grant’s son to play?

  • 17 L'arlequino // Jul 31, 2007 at 6:21 pm

Turfgrrl: I think the Seaport Association was trying for the A-Team, but they weren’t available since George Peppard is dead and Mr. T is no fool. Perhaps the B-52s would have worked but then that would have required some imagination and willingness not to play to the lowest common denominator.

Sheesh. The least they could have done was go up the road to Fairfield and talk to the Tom Tom Club…

Speaking of music - the line-up for this weekend’s SoNo Arts Celebration looks to be a great mix of local and national talent. I’ll take the diversity and energy of acts from this awesome event over the Oyster Fest’s any day.

Check out www.sonoarts.org for performance times and locations.

I’ll be there all weekend - hope to see many of you!

Dar Williams and Graham Parker are not too shabby — and I’m sure the local acts are interesting also. Looks like a good place to be this weekend…in “historic” SoNo. And Thursday, you can enjoy “historic” Wall Street. Hey, wait, maybe Norwalk has some “history” worth preserving. What a concept!

Is it true that they can’t force you to pay to hey into the oyster festival. I heard that they can only force you to pay a parking fee in a city park, and can’t charge admission. Is that why the entrance to the oyster fest is called a donation?

I am going to see Eddie Money for free in Danbury.
