Sensing the political turmoil that could potentially erupt in the 3 meetings that would occur on the Norwalk planning commission between now and the election, Walter Brigg’s plans to step aside, or down, or whatever. Good grief, step aside because of political gain? You have to have a political pulse to get there. From the Advocate:
Saying he wants to avoid a conflict of interest, Walter Briggs - the Democratic mayoral nominee hopeful - announced yesterday he will step aside as Planning Commission chairman.
“I just think it’s a conflict, and I don’t think I have the time to do the job correctly in the next three months, because I’ll be campaigning a lot,” Briggs said.
He said he planned to tell fellow commissioners of his decision at their meeting last night.
Briggs, who will remain on the commission, said he would appoint himself and two other commissioners to a nominating committee for new officers.
He will remain chairman until next month, when the commission elects new leadership.
Arthur Scialabba, chairman of Republican Mayor Richard Moccia’s campaign for re-election, said Briggs’ move was “only right” and not unexpected.
Candidates for elected office have stepped down from leadership roles on city boards in the past, Scialabba said.
Oh, at least Briggs is planning on campaigning. Shall I predict? Oh why not, first there will be a subcommittee on planning the planning, then mini campaign plans will be targeted and a few public events will be held, and by October of 2012, the master campaign plan will be unveiled.
