Norwalk: Historic at 50?

The demolition delay bill which moved the state suggested guidelines from 90 days to 180 days prompted some discussion on whether 50 years is old enough. From today’s Hour:

“I strongly support historic preservation,” Coffey said. But “I’ve heard from some residents that a house that is 50 years old is not historic. Some people have mentioned (the delays) deprive property owners of their property rights. It’s an important balance. We need to have hearings and discussion and see if it’s appropriate for the city.”

CT State Ethics Chief Resigns

Ben Bycel who has been under fire for things like allegedly sleeping in his office. not having a CT driver’s license and alienating staff has chosen to resign. From the Courant:

Benjamin Bycel, executive director of the newly reorganized Office of State Ethics, said he will remain with the agency no later than Oct. 11.

“I have completed my work in helping to establish the Office of State Ethics. It’s time for another challenge and time for me to return to my home state,” Bycel wrote in a brief resignation letter.
Bycel, who is originally from California, said he would not comment further.

Norwalk: The Asphalt Jungle

Connecticut overall has a problem with roads. On a recent trips to Boston, I noted that in Massachusetts, roads were well marked, paved, and maintained. It didn’t matter whether they were state roads, or city roads. In Connecticut it’s a hit or miss proposition on whether you find nice roads. Some towns have them. Others, like Norwalk, as Mayor Moccia said as a candidate not so long ago, you drive along potholes waiting for a road to jump out.
