Almost forgot that the Human Relations Commission wants another investigation into the racial allegation that no one knows about because the alleged victim won’t release the video tape. Corda is already planning to spend extra educational dollars, without checking in to see what the Common Council is going to do. And anything else you want to talk about.

Why is “Bea” Brown continually and relentlessly persuing this case of discrimination in the NFD.Who is she? what’s her agenda? If the fireman in this case was promptly fired for for drunkedness, on the job, the 1st,2nd.3rd,or 4th time it probably would never have come to this. Or is it that the $40,000.00 settlement and health coverage for him and his family wasn’t enough?

Hm. Slow day on the blog, I see. Everybody out enjoying the gorgeous weather?
-
What is the deal with the Norwalk Police officer who is not only a ghoul because he bragged he was going to use a skull fragment of an accident victim for an ashtray, but then was just accused of pulling his gun on a man for no good reason.
This man tarnishes every man on the NPD. The union backed him and won. Great advertisement for their next drive for donations. This truthfully scares me. Much more than anything about the Fire Dept alleged racial problem does. This person is out on the street PROTECTING US AND OUR LOVED ONES. I get a chill every time I think about it.
-
Let guess. Another City job that is a union-protected position?

I noticed an officer giving out tickets for noise violations this week at Calf Pasture Beach. No one was ever killed because of a noisy muffler. Annoyed maybe, but killed no.
At the same time all over town, I still see mopeds riding by with no license plates, and driven by under age kids, and adults. I still see drivers in convertibles blabbing on their cell phones WITH THE TOP DOWN, in blatant defiance of the law.
I suggest we stop going after soft targets, and non-life threatening violations, and use that manpower to start going after violations that can cause death and dismemberment. Remember those do not only include speeding, and DUI. Let’s get the point across to the drivers, who commit moving violations that can and will kill innocent people, they will pay the price for their actions. Reckless driving in this town is becoming more and more prevalent. It is like everyone is in a rush to go nowhere, and could give less of a thought about anyone else’s safety.
I will settle for a little more noise, if I can be sure that some idiot with a new iPhone is not driving while they are;
Text messaging,
Programming the GPS,
Talking on the phone,
Watching a movie,
Browsing the Internet,
Reading their E-Mail
and
Listening to their 2000 songs.
All the time they are driving through STOP SIGNS, RED LIGHTS, and heading towards me on my side of the road.
Can we please get our priorities in order?

jerry aldrich: I have one caveat to what you’ve said, I don’t care what people are doing in their cars, as long as they drive respecting the existing laws. Which means, stopping at stop signs, turn signals, saying in lanes, turning into the nearest lane, speeding etc. All these “behavior” laws are hard to enforce, while the moving violations laws are easy to enforce. Those are the ones that should be focused on, the behavior will take care of itself.
-
After looking at the photo’s of The Norwalk Historical Museum Curator’s Office, I wonder if it would not be a good idea to call the FBI. They might find the body of Jimmy Hoffa under all that stuff.

“Which means, stopping at stop signs, turn signals, saying in lanes, turning into the nearest lane, speeding”
That’s exactly what I am saying. You cannot do this while using a Qwerty Keyboard and driving on crowded city streets. Most drivers have a problem obeying the laws when they are concentrating 100% on driving. Behavior will never be learned unless the is a penalty for bad behavior. People seem to think that good behavior is something that everyone else is lacking. There are moving violations and there are moving violations. Some are no more dangerous than having a taillight out. Others are invitations to visit the morgue. It is like breaking into a Crack House, and handing out citations because of improper footwear being worn by the drug dealers. I am only saying that some officers handing out SOME violations should take the time to think about the INTENT of the law, rather then the LETTER OF THE LAW.

Regarding the Human Relations Commission planning another racial discrimination investigation: my guess is that it’s Bea Brown only who wants this. She managed to drive away the last 2 Executive directors by harassment, and probably the new guy who was supposed to start last month. Too bad because the Commission had started a program in December to help Norwalk employees and residents operate in ways that are respectful and prevent problems and lawsuits, etc. That initiative died and nothing happening now. Maybe the city should get rid of the Human Relations Commission, since they can’t do anything but fight.
Haven’t heard a discrimination case in years; everyone goes directly to the federal commission now. -
lets give the police dept a break today they did in 2006 make 95 arrests for DUI with a population of 82,000 and Fairfield with a population of 57.340 made during that same time 116 DUI’s of course with Greenwhich with a population 62,000 they pulled off 176 DUI in 2006 so it goes to show they are keeping a profile on arrests..numbers could mean a lot if there was someone out here that could explain a lot more statistically,Martin B Cassidy at the Advocate should get the job seems he knows how to get the numbers these are his in Sundays Advocate page 8. Good for you Martin..

I guess our drunks are much more stealthy.

With regards to the Human Relations Commission, it looks like some members just take things into their own hands. Why is it that the vice chair is holding press conferences and not the chair? Why is it that according to the paper would she want to start and investigation without letting the committee that is already investigating this finish their job? The new director needs to step up and make sure that this doesn’t turn into a witch hunt. By all accounts in the papers it seems as if the Health, Welfare and Public Saftey sub committee have asked all the questions and should be allowed to finish what they started before this women starts another mess. Haven’t the firefighters been through enough? According to local reports it looks as if the fault is that when a complaint was made the former mayor and the chief did not do their job. Reading about the hearings it seems as if even the black firfighters did not feel the dept was racist so what is she grasping for? That guy should have been fired right away but I guess the settlement he got wasn’;t enough so now he has to keep it going until he destroys the moral of those he worked with for so long just one more time.

what are we the sixth largest city in Ct, we need to act like one when it comes to any of the issues being raised.
-
mr. Greenpeace, you are correct and this site certainly has its share of issues. Unfortunately or fortunately we don’t all agree with each other. The issue of the Human Relations investigation should be a dead issue since they refused to or perhaps persuaded not to hear the case in the very beginning. Has anyone asked for minutes from the recent hearings? perhaps they will give all insight into the allegations. Perhaps they should actually wait until this one is finished before they start anew one and put a wrench in the investigation already in the works.
-
I consider the fact that we all don’t agree with each other to be reflective of the diversity of views here. If we all agreed with each other then this forum would be really boring.
The fact that people are willing to express their views here means that at least some of those views are pertinent to the community as a whole.
Everyone also knows that the powers that be - whether they’re local government, politicians, or the media - pay attention to what is said here.
Let’s hope this site continues to have its share of issues.

RE: #15 Anonymous
Hear, hear, my friend!
Now.. one thing I’m sure we can agree on is pizza. Anyone know of a reeeeally good place to get pizza just like Venezia’s used to make? In my opinion, the Modugno family made the best pizza on the planet. They were located across from Cove Avenue on First Street, I think it was…and then they moved to Cedar Street before they closed down. What a sad day for pizza lovers!
-
That’s Arcudi’s now on First St., they have square Sicilian pies, which I can’t say I favor. Just across the street, Partners serves a really good ‘za, esp. the thin crust. Actually, my new fave is Norwalk Pizza and Pasta’s thin crust, they’re on East Ave. across from the cemetary, they used to be Rowayton Pizza and Pasta.
Dunno, you may be opening a whole new can of worms here. I bet there are as many (or more) different opinions about this subject as anything.
-
watchdog: Pizza agreement!? You are intent on starting a new battle over here

I was partial to NY Pizza in SoNo, for the pepperoni, but enjoy the Fatcats cheese these days with a Helles beer. Aecht Schlenkerla Helles Lagerbier, has a smokey taste to it, which I consider bacony, so the combo works out nicely. Similar to the bacon, onion and cheese pie I used to get at the Spot in New Haven. -
Planet Pizza here!
-
Its nice to hear someone else call it pie,,the wife has driven me crazy when she calls it that,,I myself look back to the North End to Polcari’s, (little Italy) in Boston home of my favorite slice .
The only place where my family agrees on is Illiano’s there’s one in Niantic when coming off the highway for something to eat when travelling 95 sits a wonderful spot for the pizza, there are others by the same name but the Niantic grill is the best I have found since in Ct.Try the Sicilian special pizza you won’t regret it.
I trust you will all have a great and safe Holiday..
-
No pizza will ever be as good as the old “Phil Baker’s” or Arrow in Westport - or Hill Top on Ely Avenue. I’m dating myself!! Bang Bang Pizza on Westport Avenue - by the slice - is pretty good and has the thin crust.
-
I vote for Louie and George’s East Avenue pizza. Their Greek salad is nice too…fresh with a good dressing.
-
21- Naw, you’re not dating yourself! Betcha were just a babe like me. I remember those hard, white, round cardboard containers with the thick lids they used for take-out. Remember the smell of that sauce? Nothing like it..
While we’re at it, you MUST remember the Blue Moon, too. I remember those same round white containers with yummy sauce..
Thanks for the flashback, N-Native!
-
Ok The Arrow Restaurant gets my vote, they had that really good pizza that stuck to the top of the box by the time you got it home. The crust used to bubble up through the sauce and cheese and fresh sliced pepperoni or sausage and peppers, although I always liked anchovies myself. With it you got the salad with peppers, onions, tomatoes and chopped mozzerella.
Now thats what I call Saturday night!(Couldn’t have it on Friday’s-no meat in our house) -
Sure do remember the Blue Moon - and their soft shell crab dinners also. Took many containers of that sauce home myself - sooo good. I’m getting hungry.
-
Blue Moon..right! What a great place.

Wonder how the entitled, spoiled Norwalk High school senior made it though her prom without her chocolate fountain!!! Maybe she might have earned the $$$ with a summer job to pay for it–wait, hold on–that would be in conflict with her beach time!

This is the third time I’ve seen this posting here. You sound like a broken record. Have you got anything else to say?

I am just tired of our hedonistic youth getting everything they want without an ounce of WORK.

Fear not! Now that Paris has seen the light, our youth will be saved!
