Mayor Moccia has successfully convinced FEMA to consider applications for individual homeowners. From a press release:
“I am pleased to inform the residents of Norwalk that Richard L. Fournier, Region 1 Coordinator of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security has advised me that individual assistance for homeowners who suffered losses due to the April Nor’Easter 2007 has been approved by FEMA,†states Mayor Richard Moccia. The Courant reports his statement. “I promised from the beginning that I would not allow the mistake that I made interfere with my public office. By stepping down today, I am making sure that my personal issue does not overshadow all of the good work we’ve done and will do as a caucus.”
Ummm … his personal issue? Look, as a politician in a legislature he is supposed to make laws not break laws. The fact that he didn’t bother to report a bribe, where he allegedly said he was “afraid of them guys & tracing things.” Hardly the ringing flat refusal it should have garnered.

I guess I’m still bothered by Sal Corda’s persistence in blaming the community, the common council, and any one else for not “understanding” his budget. He must have thought he was being clever when he pointed out, during the BOE finance committee meeting that the “public” was not there in great numbers. All I could think was that he was as masterful as Dr. Evil in his island hideout bemoaning the fact that only his henchmen were there.

The Hour runs with the story coming out of District C that former Democratic candidate for mayor, and current District C Common Council member Fred Bondi is being ousted by the District C Democrats. What The Hour didn’t say is that the District C committee hasn’t exactly been meeting regularly. Over the past year it has met twice, which can possibly be interpreted as meaning that it doesn’t exist. Irregularities in district meetings is something that dogs the Democrats throughout the state. At a spring DFA (Democracy For America) meeting, many people spoke of the difficulty in participating in Democratic town parties due to the tactic, of district committees not meeting on a regularly scheduled basis.
