Norwalk’s Memorial Day Parade is Monday May 28th. And for the 4th year, Councilwoman Joanne Romano is building a float in partnership with “Operation Adopt-A-Platoon.” The purpose of the float is to gather items to be sent to troops stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Joanne says:

Let’s show our Service men and women that Norwalk cares!

Bring a donation to the parade

Volunteer marchers will be collecting supplies throughout the parade route
Joanne Romano (203-554-6071 for more information

Letters and cards are important. Get your children to write a letter thanking our service men and women so that they know that they are appreciated. And it doesn’t hurt to write more than one, as they will be given out randomly. You may include your name and address if you would like. That would give our soldiers the chance to respond if they so desire and if they are in an area where they can mail them.

Stuff that help the troops include the following “wish list” of items:

Kudo’s to Romano, I’ll be looking for the float. Does anyone know where the float will be in the parade route? last year we missed it. Also is there someplace we can drop items in case we miss the float?
I hope everyone on this blog will bring items with them to the parade. This is a great Norwalk endeavor and we should all participate. forget you are republicans and forget you are democrats and do it for our men and women in the armed forces. By the way, I see Ms. Romano was out at St. John’s cemetary in her Mets t-shirt yesterday replacing flags on the graves of those who served our country with a bunch of others including Mayor Moccia, Bob Duff and Cris Perone. Nice shot on NEWS 12. Guess she does a little bit of everything Guess it really isn’t political like some have said.

To:#7- The float will be in the eighth division / 1st float. I have asked for volunteers to help collect any supplies that people bring. The more the merrier! I will not be marching with the float so that no-one sees this as unethical or political(which it is not) I choose not to. I will be marching with the Council. Anyone is welcome to help collect supplies or just march along. The only thing I require is that the participants wear patriotic colors. If for any reason you miss the float, I will be at the viewing stand at the end of the parade or you can contact me at jtromano1@yahoo.com and I will make arrangements with you to pick up the items. As for the flag placement at St. John’s, I have volunteered for this for 3 years because I choose to remember those who fought for our country, those who came home and those who gave their lives. I do this in Honor of my father and other family and friends who served their country. I will be announcing a fundraiser soon. The items we are collecting now will go to a troop with a soldier who has local connections to a Rowayton Family who is serving in Iraq.
