The worst flooding happens in the early spring end of March early April because of the lack of ground thaw. Now that the earth is ready to receive the rain there is less in my basement!

In the open thread spirit, does anyone know what is happening at the Betts Island clam beds? I understand that last year it was being “reseeded.” Makes sense, OK. However, the way it was handled was frustrating. I would read in the Hour that the beds were open, take the kids out to Betts Island, see the flag, see the scofflaws, and come up with some explanation as to why we wouldn’t join them. Somehow I don’t think that they bought into the concept that moral smugness was superior to a fresh clam.
As the summer wore on and the beds were open/closed, a call to the “Clamoid Commission” (whatever government office that my wife found was in control) brought us the info that the beds were, indeed, open and the Maritime Police just needed to take down the flag. In a call to the Maritime Police, we learned that a letter or fax was needed for them to proceed. You can intuit the follow-up conversations over the next few weeks.
I have the feeling of deja vu all over again. The Hour says the bed is open, the flags at the Islands say closed. Does anyone know what is happening at the Betts Island clam beds?

The rec/park poeple are working to give norwalk the best they can, But they need input from every one, the public, the council, the mayor. We need a master plan to follow how and why things are being done. The town has one and the parks need one, the council should fix the funding so that we get one. The meeting was a start, now we all should go in front of the council and ask if it can be done in a time so that rec/parks does not put a stop to projects all ready in the works. We do need a toxic check of the soil, we should ask the state/feds to get some of the funding for this item. We all need to be involve in our city.

Who will take advantage of Memorial day to reveal their mayoral aspirations? District E Democrats plot over the cauldron today in Rowayaton. Bill Krummel? Mike Barbaris? Or will Alex return as a default, a washed up political hack who cost each taxpayer a steak dinner every day?

Anonymous Dem/ Mike Coffey knock it off!

More errors in fact there Galen.
-
Nah, Jen is Galen. Watch how there will be no comments while the fund raiser is going on. Why isn’t she cooking up a dish right now?
-
Hey, Turfie - Why don’t you create an ongoing “Partisan Attacks” thread that these people can use so the thread topics can stay clean?
-
I think that’s a great idea. And thanks for keeping this site open.

The Memorial Day Parade is to honor vets and our servicemen and women and those who died for our country to make it free for everyone to be able to say what they feel. Isn’t America Great? Thats why we get to post on blogs like this.
As a side note, Only “Elected” Officials and those invited by the Memorial Day Committee are invited to participate unless of course they march with one of the units of organizations participating in the parade.

#10 - Too bad our troops in Iraq can’t share the same freedom of speech. They’ve been banned by the Department of Defense from using MySpace and YouTube, and if I’m not mistaken, left-leaning sites like Wonkette.
America is Great! As long as you subscribe to the government’s point of view.
-
#8 Good point. It isn’t this site, or CT or Norwalk, though, that creates the “Us & Them” mentality people use to communicate their (mis-informed, attack the speaker/writer, not the argument) viewpoints.
#11 You can lay low and find many other Americans thinking the government is stinking up. You might find similar attitudes from foreigners regarding their own countries governments. Talk to a Spaniard, Franco, Syrian or South American. They think their own governments suck worse than ours and they are probably right.
#10 Memorial Day is to honor the deceased veterans only? That’s what you wrote. You didn’t mention those that lived. The liberty we “invented” over 200 years ago is what makes the US great (and some very rich soil) and that has very little to do with our right to blog today, which is not exclusively American. What rock are you from under? Come out sometime for an iced, cold Gollumade!

#10, Veteran’s Day is to honor those still living. Memorial Day IS for those who gave their lives.
-
oops, of course I meant Robert F., and not #10
-
How about honoring our troops by keeping them alive and out of harm’s way? It’s the yellow elephants who keep supporting an illegal war.
-
Today is the district E democrats fundraiser! All are welcome including you Anon Dem.
Come out to the beautiful- Bayley Beach Park .
5:00 to 8:00 PM

“Veteran’s Day is to honor those still living. Memorial Day IS for those who gave their lives”
“oops, of course I meant Robert F., and not #10″
Oops, I remember walking in parades as a kid with WW1 & WW2 veterans, etc., and I thought we were honoring them as well.

My shift starts at 6pm, so regrettably no.

To those who don’t agree or made comment on my posting(#10) Memorial Day is to honor those who gave their lives for our country(hence the Memorial)it is also used to honor our vets who served in previous as well as current wars. All service men and women. As a child I was taught that veterans were those who gave us our freedom and I was always proud to march alongside of them and as an adult I am still proud to honor them and thir comrades who didn’t come home but fought to the death to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.
Just so you are all aware, not all republicans agree with the war, but we do support our troops. there are many good sites where you can write to our troops that they have access to:

This is NOT ridiculous:
The 1868 Proclamation of Memorial Day:
HEADQUARTERS GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC
General Orders No.11, WASHINGTON, D.C., May 5, 1868The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet church-yard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit. We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us, for the purpose among other things, “of preserving and strengthening those kind and fraternal feelings which have bound together the soldiers, sailors, and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion.” What can aid more to assure this result than cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their breasts a barricade between our country and its foes? Their soldier lives were the reveille of freedom to a race in chains, and their deaths the tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. All that the consecrated wealth and taste of the nation can add to their adornment and security is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.
If other eyes grow dull, other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain to us. Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from hishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon a nation’s gratitude, the soldier’s and sailor’s widow and orphan.
By order of JOHN A. LOGAN, Commander-in-Chief
