May 17th, 2007 · 7 Comments

With traffic cited as a main concern amongst city residents. a public forum on local transportation is likely a good place to vent concerns. The forum will be held on Thursday, May 24th at the Community Room at City Hall and start at 6:30 PM.

After a brief presentation on Norwalk’s census trends and the results of an online survey about transportation, the forum will open up for discussion on transportation issues like buses, trains, bikes, parking, taxis, sidewalks and traffic.

The format will follow:

6:30-7:00 PM (sign in, snacks, network)
7:00-7:15 PM Presentation on Population and business growth in Norwalk (1995-2005) and Survey results by Mary Pugh

7:15-7:30 PM Brief Comments

7:30-8:00 PM Open discussion

You can still take the survey here:

Interesting that this will be the same night as the Ethics Ordinance hearing.
    Bad timing.

Interesting survey but is skewed towards people who have access to computers. What about people who can only afford public transportation? Is their input important?

Commenter #2: This link is for computer users; this is just one part of the survey population we are reaching. Calling and intercept is also being utilized.

Thank you for your comment- it is good to see an appreciation for the validity of research results.

I took the survey online. Too many questions that were mostly the same. Why not ask where I commute to, and what my options are and build from there. I don’t mean to be critical, but laundry lists like this are a chore.

Yeah, it is tedious; but probably done that way so someone can analyze it. Interviews like what you suggest might be hard to add up the results and make some sense out of it.

I took it too- it was relatively fast and kinda fun. It was maybe 2 minutes and made me think about things we need to fix up around Norwalk so not a waste of time.

I took the survey but found some of the questions may not produce accurate results. Not to be picky but I do a lot of work developing surveys and assessments. You have to be really careful about teh choicse you give people and how you word the questions. This one seemed like it would give you “bad data” in a few of the areas — just an observation. Was this survey professionally developed? Has it been tested and validated?

Public Forum - FOOD is always a draw! Swing by before the ethics meeting at 8 PM

Thanks to the many who clicked on the link and responded to the survey.

To comments about the survey: this is a quick survey designed to “float up” issues. And for those with small screens, I apologize for not breaking it up to smaller question groups so you could easily see the top. I work on two huge monitors..and forget at times that majority of the world might be plugging away on a laptop. lol

They won’t know unless you tell them.

A Public Forum on Local Transportation will be held on Thursday, May 24th at the Community Room at City Hall.
(before the ethics meeting so come, eat,
pick up info and data and chat with us!)
Senator Bob Duff, Representatives Chris Perone, Bruce Morris Toni Boucher and other elected officials plan to be there (depends on session timing). Mayor Moccia has asked Lou Schulman, of Norwalk transit district to come and listen to you- so now is your chance to be heard.

We know many of you will be coming directly from work so we are having refreshments for you to enjoy.

There will also be a table of information and petitions you can sign if you want our officials to know your interest in bike lanes, timed traffic lights, mini buses, trolleys, parking, free parking for visting athletic teams, more taxis, sidewalks, less TRUCK traffic in our neighborhoods, traffic bleeding onto Flax Hill, County Street and others as people avoid the high traffic roads — PLUS whatever new issues that are relevant - TELL THEM!!

Our public officials, legislators and transit team want to hear your thoughts on buses, trains, bikes, parking, taxis, sidewalks, etc.
