Open thread item: From Norwalk Democratic Party link:
“You will make some very important choices in elections this fall. After 14 years of Republican neglect, it was a Democratic Mayor and Council that initiated historic school renovations. Now we need to update outdated and crumbling infrastructure. Norwalk’s Democrats will get the job done. So join us between now and November 6th in a vigorous campaign to elect Democrats who will ensure Norwalk’s future.”
    Galen Wells, Town Chair

Ms. Wells, or anyone else who would care to comment:
Doesn’t your timespan include FOUR more years of neglect by your party? And more importantly, EXACTLY HOW will the “Democrats get the job done”?. Please publish your plan and timetable for accomplishing this as soon as possible. Why wait for campaign season to heat up? Some of us are FLOODING this spring, all of us are DISGUSTED by the condition of the roads, and traffic might be smoother with NO LIGHTS at this point. And what does “ensure Norwalk’s future” mean? That we’ll still exist in 100 years - of course we will. But we will exist with the same conditions as 2007? Any party can ensure THAT future.
(Repubs need not reply unless your side has a new infrastructure plan just in time for campaign season- your current plans were made clear when the budget passed).
With all due respect, both sides are ridiculous. Here’s the good news: This will turn out to be an election year where the best woman or man for the job will win on the council & for mayor, regardless of party affiliation, because many voters are sick of the political crap. It makes for great drama in the council chambers, though. If I am correct, there are are more unaffiliated voters in Norwalk than either party. Hey, there’s an idea: unaffiliated candidates, not Independents,(which is also a Party) but truly unaffiliated. Is it legal, and can it be done?
PS: The “historic” school renovations initiated by Deomocratic Council & Knopp is WHY there has been continued neglect of the infrastrucutre. We’re in debt up to the flood waters and deeper than some potholes thanks to that brilliant move. Duh!

The Democrats on the Council have been forceful on the issues of infrastructure and education. They have disagreements yes, but they have increased DPW funding and kept our taxes lower by refusing to rubber stamp the BOE extra increases. But, Alvord reports to the Mayor not the Council. So if action is required, who do you want in charge and accountable? I’d echo that we need people to run that are unaffiliated.

    Just a few questions here
I take it that poster #3 thinks that the democrats are the power source once again. So do mean to say that the republicans on the council have done not one thing with regards to the infrastructure etc? If it wasn’t for their votes none of this would have gotten through since the 5 outers sit with their little agendas in front of them and Wells in the audience making sure that they do everything in their power to discredit the republican side and those on the democrats side that see the wisdom of voting for the benefit of all Norwalk citizens and not just galen Wells benefit. Come on, why not be honest #15, you are either galen in an anonymous disguise or one of her lacky’s that sit wagging their tails waiting for instructions on what to say and what to do. The independants and unafilliates will vote for the people they see doing their job and I for one can name several on the republican side who go out of their way to be there when we, the taxpayers need help and they vote the way they believe is right for everyone, certainly not in step with others. As always the democratic website spews wrong information and accusations. As far as that wonderful “initiated historic school renovations”
wow, now that was a biggee, I remeber the “NO MORE LEAKY ROOFS” campaign, that sure worked out for the taxpayers, we’re still trying to fix them this many years later because of the hastily done job that wasn’t up to stands. How about the parking fiasco and the monies forgotten that are owed by numerous goups like the oyster festival etc. What about all the expensive restaurant equipment that the democratic BOE spent for Norwalk High that is still sitting in storage with no intention s of being installed. If this is your idea of Ensuring Norwalk’s Future, God help us all.
