I’m sure the teachers here will weigh on on this one. But on the surface its nice to see a local resident get the job. From The Hour:

Norwalk resident Suzanne Brown Koroshetz is stepping down as principal of Stamford High School to take the top post at Brien McMahon in her hometown.

The Norwalk Board of Education approved Brown Koroshetz’s appointment as principal of Brien McMahon High School in a special meeting Thursday morning. She will take over July 1 for Joseph Rodriguez, who announced his retirement in February after 10 years as principal.

“She’s been a great principal down at Stamford High School (and) has wonderful experience at the school setting,” said Tom Vetter, a member of the Norwalk Board of Education. “Her kids went to McMahon. I think she’s going to be a wonderful addition, both from a professional point of view and a personal point of view.”
rien McMahon parent Barbara Cafero, who said she has known Brown Koroshetz for “many years,” expressed her confidence in the Board of Education’s choice.

“I am thrilled that she is going to be the principal,” said Cafero, who is a member of the Brien McMahon Parents Club and the Norwalk PTO Council. “I think she’s going to be wonderful. She’s part of the McMahon family. It’s going to be like her coming back home.”

Brown Koroshetz has been principal of Stamford High School since July 2003, before which she was assistant principal of that school for two years.

Prior to becoming an administrator, Brown Koroshetz taught mathematics at Stamford High School for eight years, the last two as chairwoman of the department.

She received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of Connecticut in 1978, where she later earned a master’s in business administration.

The Norwalk school system conducted a three-month search for a new Brien McMahon principal that included extensive interviews by a committee composed of parents, teachers, administrators and students.

I think I just posted a comment on this particular subject but it seems to have disappeared.

I found it-posted it under a different heading
McMahon has new principal -Finally a Norwalk resident gets a top job in Norwalk! This is probably the best news I have seen in the papers in a very long time.
Speaking to people with regards to this over the past week I have found that Suzanne Brown Koroshetz is going to be sorely missed in Stamford and Norwalk is going to be a very lucky place or should I say McMahon will be getting a wonderful Principal. Now we can only hope this will become a trend and we will stop going to NY and other areas for retired admins who not only get a pension from their previous jobs but in time will be eligible for pensions in Norwalk.

I am really glad to see a local resident get the job. There was a time when all of the teachers and administrators in school systems across the land lived in the towns in which they served in those positions.

Congratulations to those Brien McMahon teachers who regularly visit this blog, and of course… to those who don’t! In fact, congrats to the entire BM family - staff, parents, and students! The timing is perfect… Ms. Koroshetz will have summer to pull back and organize things to hit the ground running in September. And to think… she’s NOT from New York! Gadzooks!

Great news here. It’s nice to see a Norwalker get the job. Good work Corda and the BoE.

Congratulations and Welcome Suzanne Brown Koroshetz

Wow! For the first time in so many years Corda came through with a winner! Don’t go throw’n on the glad rags and danc’n in the streets just yet. One of his NY friends is going to be the New Principal at NHS and we still have a bloated central office and Morris is still being paid so its not all peachy on the 3rd floor. Imagine this poor lady has to come to a
school system full of beaurocrats and overspending and will be part of the whole mess come July.

Sorry, folks. I understand there is a connection to the 3rd floor on this one…Since I can’t state anything factual, I will wait until the information is confirmed.

Don’t be so quick to give Dr. Corda any credit for hiring Ms Koroshetz. The McMahon staff, students and parents on the interview committee were adamant that she would be the next principal. He had a choice of hiring her or of beginning a fiasco like the one experienced at NHS for the past three years.

One more thing: Don’t give Dr. Corda’s consultant any credit for this either. Other than not getting in the way, he had nothing to do with bringing Ms Koroshetz to McMahon.

Happy for BMHS and their new principal, but couldn’t help wondering why it only took 3 months for BMHS, 3 years for NHS–also disappointed to hear that the new NHS principal is from NY too, pretty much had it with people who don’t have a stake in this town, and especially this side of town–can I get a tax rebate, my neighbors keep moving?

  • 10 Anonymous // May 11, 2007 at 6:08 pm

I am sure Corda had his butt to the fire on this one. If the parents and teachers hadn’t put the pressure on him we would be feeding another one of his cronies.

#9 These hires are often in the works long before they are made public. Bravo for BMHS, it seems that they have landed a good boss. Let’s not demean the new guy at NHS before he even arrives though. The parents and staff there fought a good fight to get someone good and not “settle”.

I am looking forward to working with Ms Koroshetz.People should listen to #8- I too believe that the interview committee did very well and it is crazy that the town has to pay the so-called “head hunter” for this one. How much was his bill? And is he now looking to fill Stamford’s principal vacancy? Things that make you go HHHHMMMMMM.

  • 13 anonymous // May 12, 2007 at 12:11 am

The consultant’s bill was $18,000 for the so-called search for the principal. What did we get? We got someone who, although probably a very good choice, would have applied for the position anyway. We didn’t need Lerer.

  • 14 anonymous // May 12, 2007 at 9:17 am

$18,000 would have bought a whole bunch of copy paper!

  • 15 anonymous // May 15, 2007 at 9:02 pm

I find it hard to believe someone got an administration job in Norwalk without knowing someone or other administrators knowing who was getting the job even before it was posted. Administrators get appointed in Norwalk, not hired! Let’s hope she treats blacks better than Dr. Moore treats whites! I know…that’s not hard to do.

  • 16 Anonymous // May 15, 2007 at 9:29 pm

Dr. Moore is a nut job and shouldn’t be teaching any of our kids. Seems like she went to Bruce Morris’ school of reverse discrimination. Wonder if she has the same degrees he has.

Mrs. Koroshetz is a very popular pricipal in Stamford by both white and blacks ans will do an excellent job at McMahon.
