When Educators Lie About Academic Credentials …

When educators lie about academic credentials they resign. But we wouldn’t know what was on Morris’ resume except that he handed out copies during his campaign for State Rep last year. And on it he claimed a College Degree, which he now does not claim. But the issue of what he told the BOE in 1999 is very important. And something that Sal Corda still has not addressed. Will someone form the BOE please release the job application of Bruce Morris? Or has the proverbial dog eaten the homework?

From the NY TImes:

Marilee Jones, the dean of admissions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, became famous for urging stressed-out students competing for elite colleges to calm down and stop trying to be perfect. But today she admitted that she had fabricated her own academic educational credentials, and resigned after nearly three decades at the university.

“I misrepresented my academic degrees when I first applied to M.I.T. 28 years ago and did not have the courage to correct my résumé when I applied for my current job or at any time since,” Ms. Jones said in a statement posted on the university’s Web site today. “I am deeply sorry for this and for disappointing so many in the M.I.T. community and beyond who supported me, believed in me and who have given me extraordinary opportunities.

It was reported that Mr. Morris had a degree on both the state cga and Norwalk Democratic web site. However, after his academic credentials were being disputed- these sites now report he (Morris) attended UCONN.

St. Thomas More- is a very upscale prep school. Mr. Morris attending and graduating from this school seems odd- therefore this fact should also be questioned.

Why would anybody give a high paying education job to someone with a high school education?

This is the question on everyones mind and when is someone going to do anything about it?

Was it ever stated why Marilee Jones did not tell sooner at MIT? And how long is it going to take Mr. Morris to grow a backbone and resign? The job was intended for a educated member of the community to reach out to the multicultural community of Norwalk to teach tollarence. Something that Mr. Morris has not shown at both the city and state level.

I wonder if his application could be acquired through the Freedom of Information Act???

I am certain that his application is available to us under FOI. Who is willing to make the request?

    We BOE employees don’t dare.

#5-are you implying that you are one of the BOE board or an employee? In any case, you can request what you like under FOIA. If you are retaliated against for this then you would have a good chance of filing a discrimination case against those who would stifle your rights.

Turfgrrl, I like the article but the title is wrong. Morris has never been an educator. He has worked to divide the city population for his benefit. If he is not qualified for his position he should be handed walking papers and soon!

#6, “If you are retaliated against for this then you would have a good chance of filing a discrimination case against those who would stifle your rights.”

While that may be true in a perfect world, the reality of the situation for many employees is that you would have to PROVE you are being retaliated against. There are many subtle ways in which an unscrupulous supervisor can negatively effect your career when you expose yourself in the way you propose while at the same time not crossing the line into a valid discrimination case. I am absolutely not saying that you ignore your principals or let people walk over you, but I don’t see the reason for someone to expose themselves unnecessarily like you propose when it looks like this is going to come to a head any day now.
This is similar to why You and most of the bloggers here, including myself, don’t use their given names.
FYI, I’m not a BOE Employee, but I am sure the BOE environment is the same as any other large organization. Your pretty quick to offer up #5, maybe you could file the application?

#8, I was not implying any such thing nor was I saying anyone should do this without taking a good hard look at the ramifications before doing so. What I am saying is that someone needs to come forward and blow the lid off this mess. This thing is coming to a head soon is correct. Finally the taxpayers will see the BOE for what it is and take the necessary steps hopefully to right a wrong that has been too long in coming. What a shame the kids have to be subjected to this. But hopefully it will put alot of people at ease knowint that some of the council and the BET had the the guts to finally stand up to these people and do the right thing.

#9. The children have not been subjected to this because Mr. Morris has helped very few of them to have made a difference. Where it hurts our children is when the monies going to his salary and others like him does not go to funding teachers and supplies that are needed.
