Musings From CT-N Thursday; Morris and Money

Well so much for getting much work done today, because after several phone calls I had to turn on CT-N to watch Bruce Morris bloviate on the Bill on Same Sex Marriage. Oh what a surprise Bruce Morris has decided to vote against it because:

marriage is “for the furhter of the human race, it is only heterosexuals couples that are born to have children without outside intervention”

But if you think my take is bad, take a gander what the dems over at myleftnutmeg have to say …

“Heterosexuals are doing a horrible job”
“upholding an institution meant to keep the species going”
Hey Maura, does Morris have kids?-7.25 / -7.28

Dunno
But again, if his argument is that marriage should be restricted to those for whom procreation is a physical possibility, he ought to know that that in itself is a re-definition of marriage.
People for whom procreation (without outside intervention) is a physical impossibility get married all the time now.

I hereby nominate Representative Morris
for the MLN Golden Dolphin Award… let’s see if there’s anyone else in the running by the end of this.

A Dictionary in the Hands of a Fool
Is a dangerous weapon. Same as with basic math: “3+3=6, 3+2 does not equal 6″
“My wife goes to a gynecologist, I go to a urologist”

Christ.

But the Senate also voted on HB 7077, otherwise known as “AN ACT CONCERNING THE STATE BUDGET FOR THE BIENNIUM ENDING JUNE 30, 2009, AND MAKING APPROPRIATIONS THEREFOR.”

Now, as much as I enjoy pointing out that Morris is up in Hartford voting against every issue that his base and campaign workers support, and doing so while the BOE doesn’t know here he is, or how much time he is working in at his day job, the budget seems to be the more substantial of issues to be concerned about.

When we last looked, Norwalk was gettign short changed under the ECS funding. And so has this changed? According to today’s Advocate:

Duff said a major factor in his support of the budget would be how much the income tax hikes are offset in by increased state aid.

According to data presented yesterday, total state grants to Norwalk would increase from $12.9 million to $13.7 million and grants to Stamford would increase from $14.3 million to $16.8 million. Smaller towns like Greenwich and Westport would receive about $953,000 and $973,000 more, respectively.

But many observers, including Duff, said the Democrats’ budget presentation did not break down the amounts for comparison with what Gov. M. Jodi Rell had put on the table in her Feb. 7 budget address.

The southwestern Connecticut delegation was furious a few weeks ago when Democrats on the Education Committee took Rell’s budget, which guaranteed tens of millions for their cities and towns, and rewrote the proposal to shift that school aid to other areas of the state.

For years, Fairfield County legislators have complained the state is blinded by high property values and needs to rewrite the Education Cost Sharing formula.

State Rep. Andrew Fleischmann, D-West Hartford and an Education Committee co-chairman, had assured colleagues from Norwalk and Stamford that the lost school aid would be offset by increases in grants for special education, road work and other areas Rell underfunded or ignored.

But that was not immediately evident yesterday. The Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, in a statement reacting to the Democrats’ plan, complained about the lack of details.

“The town-by-town numbers are overall grant numbers that make analyzing specific grant amounts very difficult, particularly (for) Education Cost Sharing,” CCM’s statement said.

It looks like Norwalkers will be paying more and getting reamed on the ECS funding. Bob Duff voted yes on the budget, Toni Boucher voted no to send it out of committee. The full legislature still has to vote on it.

Mr. Bad Job Bob Duff is more concerned about his fax machine and moving ahead than holding the line on taxes his constituents pay. Bad job Bob.

Duff is all talk and no action. His “leadership” consists of doing what his Democratic bosses tell him to do. He’s been almost silent through this whole budget process, as Rell has tried to get substantially more education aid to Norwalk and the upstate Democrats are trying to take it away (but NOT taking away the big income tax increase that will hit Norwalk hard).

Meanwhile, I see that Bob is bravely fighting to keep another failing nursing home open in Darien (deflecting attention from his utter failure to get more school aid for his City?). That grandstanding effort will undoubtedly be as successful as his press-grandstanding to stop the closure of the nursing home on Strawberry Hill Avenue (it closed), or his press-grandstanding to stop the 130-foot power line towers from being built in Norwalk (they were built).

Bob is always there to get his picture in the paper. Then he finds something else to grandstand on as his last grandstanding effort — as usual — delivers no results. There seems to be an inverse relationship between Bob’s press releases and his actual accomplishments — as one goes up, the other goes down.

Bruce Morris’ 23 mins of right wing- Shame.

Bruce Morris’ wife goes to a gynecologist and he goes to a urologist- What?

    Bruce Morris can add? 3+3 = 6 not 3+2 - What?

This guy is in the running with Donnie Sellers - to be the worst state rep ever from Norwalk.

Galen Wells should disavow herself from her handpicked candidate. I am dismayed that she is opposed to gay marriage by the candidates that she selects.

    Shame on you Ms. Wells.

    Sham on you Mr. Morris

    Bruce Morris is fleecing us.

Ms Wells will find an excuse to prop up B.Morris. Just you wait!

    #3. Morris wins hands down!

    I agree with number 7.

David Angelo Watts was right when he exposed Galen Wells and Bruce Morris for what they are last year.

We need David Angelo Watts to step forward and lead the Norwalk Dems or run for Mayor this year.

Please David Angelo Watts, we need you. You are a great man of the people and many of us will support you.
