Sunday Open Thread

Not much in the news to comment on today, but all of you have had plenty to say in the comments. Today’s column in The Hour by John P. Reilly was a heck’uva job. I’m not quite sure what to make of an opinion column that is critical of the accuracy of blogs on the one hand, and yet gets the very famous “Brownie” quote wrong and concludes with the very fictional goings on at “Hooter Lake.” It must be a generational thing.

Of course the big news in blogging this week was the acknowledgment by the main stream press that talkingpointsmemo.com, not only broke the federal prosecutor firing scandal, but has provided the most detailed reporting on that subject.

Feel free to comment on whatever’s on your mind.

Accuracy of blogs? HUH? Oh.. good morning, Turfie! I read Mr. Reilly faithfully… he need not feel threatened. I do believe that’s all that is. Not to worry, he won’t lose his following. After all, the Hour has a monopoly on Norwalk. Perhaps he feels the blogger is inaccurately reporting the news and that a news topic should properly run through the subjective bias only twice. Once through the newspaper reporter, again through the editor. Anyhoo, he wouldn’t be concerned with this blog, Turfie. It’s a meeting of the minds. What harm that?

Morning watchdog: Gotta defend my fellow bloggers out there. Irony that the History Channel this am was running a documentary on the history of television, I swear you could take a quote or two from the radio media and newspaper media and run with them today.

I read Reilly’s column today. Why was Mr. Knopp advised not to testify before the common council ? Could it be because of his role in the Pagano’s Seafood matter, or the Andre Williams flip flop, or the Scott Wilson matter.

Mr. Knopp also reportedly said it was an attempt to make him look bad. Look bad ?? I really cannot believe what I read that Mr. Knopp did not read his mail as the mayor. Wow !!! And he wants to serve again. Good luck.

It is common knowledge that Mr. Knopp “convinced” his fire commissioners to reverse their initial decision not to fire Mr. Williams, and then he left the room and did not vote, in order to keep his fingerprints off the matter.

Why was it he was advised not to appear, should he have been pleading the 5th on some of the questions ??
    Who knows.

There are alot of reasons Mr. Knopp was advised not to appear. First he likened the hearing as a way to get him and make him look bad, second and ‘m only repeating what the papers have said and heresay, that Chief McCarthy was not the choice for the job, but was instead a candidate from Stamford who had the highest qualifications over all the applicants but Mr. Knopp refused their recommendation and instead made it clear that Mr. McCarthy would be the choice. Was this because Diane Farrell was behind this hiring? Of course it is. If all of this is not bad enough, Mr. Knopp states that he never read the documents presented to him and he didn’t think it was his responsibility to do so. HMMM, He was mayor(in election year)and he was a fire commissioner(or was that Chairman)As the CEO of a city with 86,000 people I would assume each and every department would be his responsibility, but alas he doesn’t recall any of this. Seems as if Mr. Knopp didn’t quite get the responsibilities of being mayor. How many more important documents did he not read that could come back to haunt us? Perhaps if he had browsed through the boxes of documents he removed from the mayor’s office, he would have read this document and probably many more and then returned them to the rightful owner THE CITY OF NORWALK! I thinks its time we appologize to the firefighters for the negativity and accusations that have surrounded them and give them the respect they deserve. Perhaps Mr. Knopp was too busy with the fireman’s contract and finding ways to put off a contract until he was re-elected(didn’t happen)to want to bring more negativity to his campaign. SAD!

What did Mr. Williams do? He stole from members of the fire dept. Thats right city employees if you rip people off and get caught- just go help Slow Mo and he will give you your job back.

Mr. Williams helped Slow Mo on his campaign and was rewarded by getting his job back. What a shame? Many rank and file were shocked by his actions.

In a pay to play town like Norwalk-maybe Slow Mo should change his name to Quid Pro Mo.

What happened to Bondi, Coffey, Grant, Peruban etc?
I don’t see the Repubs losing seats unless they relly do something bad. I think Norwalk has seen its share of one way government and prefers a mix.
