Rell Says MetroNorth Gets Upgrade

March 15th, 2007 · Comments Off

This should be good news for the New Haven line commuters. According to the Courant:

Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced today that Metro-North is adding five new morning peak trains, adding 600 seats for those commuting between New Haven and Grand Central and 950 seats for intrastate customers.

The additional Metro-North trains will save over 2,400 customers up to 14 minutes of travel time, Rell projected.

New Metro-North timetables will be available Monday at Grand Central and outlying stations.

Rell today also announced enhancements to Shore Line East peak-hour service, including new morning and evening Stamford connections with Grand Central Terminal trains.

Generic Drugs Are Way Cheaper at Costco

March 15th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Part of the costs of healthcare includes drug prices. You would think with all the competition in pharmacy availability that the pricing would be fairly close for most drugs. That turns out out be not the case.

Ban on Robo-calls Advances With Tweaks

March 15th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Legislators are backing off the total elimination of robo-calls. Somehow they are forgetting that people just don’t want to the phone to ring in the first place. They are also forgetting that people who use cell phones pay for those incoming calls. There’s a cost and inconvenience factor involved. But here’s the tweaks that they are pursuing, from the Norwalk Advocate:

The General Law Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved legislation that would require that any robotic phone message, political or commercial, be preceded by a live spokesperson.

Norwalk: Lindstrom Running Dems Still Split

March 15th, 2007 · 32 Comments

Today’s Hour reports that Laurel Lindstrom is running for a district C Common Council seat. Some anonymous poster revealed that a few weeks ago here, suggesting that Alex Knopp, rumored mayoral candidate for the Democrats, is against it. I’ll go out on a limb here and say that this is either a sign that there’s some significant Democratic sentiment that Knopp running would be a disaster, and that his dictatorial decree of who he wants running is being ignored for good reason, or that Knopp is not running.
