Norwalk: Running Out of Ideas

The old chestnut about those who can’t do teach applies just as much to those without ideas complain. And nothing smacks more of running out ideas than the current whining coming from the octogenarian leaders of the Norwalk Democratic Party. It’s time for these old war horses, long past the their prime to be put out to pasture. Tonight, right before the regularly scheduled Common Council meeting, a meeting was created to bring the members of the Common Council together for a brief informal discussion. It was even open to the public. It even offers pizza. What’s not to like?

According to Bill Krummel-D, it’s illegal. Apparently Krummel isn’t aware that meeting informally among peers was the very thing that got America created, the constitution written and a whole country full of democracy. But what can you expect from someone who struggles to stay current with a world that has been moving too fast for too long. The Robert Koch article from The Hour:

“My advice is that it be called off. Rules are set up so that we do not go straying off into illegal activities. The perception is that we have to be above any misbehavior, breaking of the rules, or grandstanding above rules and regulations,” Krummel said. “My second concern is my growing concern over the confusion of the use of the term ‘caucus.’ Caucus has a very narrow, limited definition in the Freedom of Information Act.”

Krummel said he has concerns about the “Bi-Partisan Council Members Meeting,” arranged by council President Michael W. Coffey, a Democrat, and council Minority Leader Richard A. McQuaid, a Republican, based on his conversation with an official from the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission. As such, Krummel said he would urge Democrats in their political caucus Monday night to cancel the special meeting tonight.

“This is not a necessary activity. If, indeed, there are people who feel it’s worthwhile, then the best time is after the (regular council) meeting,” Krummel said. “If this turns out to be a meeting of the council, which it seems to be, then it has to be given proper public notice.”

Yes Krummel is confused, change does that to some people. New thinking, new ideas, new things, they confuse and confound and perplex those that are sedentary. Krummel wants to live in a world where he can follow a script that he’s long familiar with and not have to think and respond to people who he might not agree with, or even know. After all the public will be at this thing, and they might, gasp, ask questions, raise issues, and participate! Krummel must wonder why the public can’t just continue to sign petitions and donate money to his election campaign. Democracy is just so messy when you let the people get involved.

Bill Krummel should consult with his hysterical society friends about how to read a statute. Its clear that his ambition to be the Mayor is clouding his judgment. The latest rumor is that he is seeking the democratic nomination to run for mayor. The thought is disgusting and might cause untold thousands to leave the City.
