The 109th Congress was known for its style of governence, late night sessions, bills being introduced on the floor without debate, back room deals. State Representative Larry Cafero is also concerned about these type of dealings, except in Hartford, where the Republicans are in minority. From The Hour:
“The public deserves to know what their elected officials are doing in Hartford. Currently, our rules allow for late-night sessions, secret deal making behind closed doors and voting on legislation that has never been aired publicly. That has to stop,” said state Rep. Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-142, who will be sworn today as House Minority Leader. “We are mindful that the Democrats have the majority, but these proposals are merited and I believe the public has clamored for more open government.”
It should be noted that Cafero has not offered up any evidence of secret deal making, and voting on legislation that has never been debated.
