Irony in Action: Local Republicans Want Transparent Government

The 109th Congress was known for its style of governence, late night sessions, bills being introduced on the floor without debate, back room deals. State Representative Larry Cafero is also concerned about these type of dealings, except in Hartford, where the Republicans are in minority. From The Hour:

“The public deserves to know what their elected officials are doing in Hartford. Currently, our rules allow for late-night sessions, secret deal making behind closed doors and voting on legislation that has never been aired publicly. That has to stop,” said state Rep. Lawrence F. Cafero Jr., R-142, who will be sworn today as House Minority Leader. “We are mindful that the Democrats have the majority, but these proposals are merited and I believe the public has clamored for more open government.”

Norwalk: Board of Ed Wants 147 million, Mayor Mulls Appointments

Last night the Common Council’s Land Use & Building Management Committee received the final report of the Fodor Farm Historic District Study Committee. It said: Create a historic district. From The Hour:

“This would be a tremendous asset to Norwalk,” said Tod Bryant, Historic District Study Committee chairman. “It would also allow us to enter into the certified local government program, which would open up a pool of grants that we at the moment cannot touch. It would not only increase the value of the houses on Fodor Farm itself, but I believe that it also would increase the property values in the surrounding area.”
