Dems Respond To Moccia

from a press release:

The Norwalk Democratic Town Committee congratulates the Mayor on his 5-years of service to the City of Norwalk.

For the remainder of his term, the Norwalk Democrats hope that Mr. Moccia and the Republican controlled Common Council will work with us to reduce our ever growing property tax burden, calm the escalating violence in our City, and address the continued challenges and budget cuts facing our school system that increasingly put Norwalk’s children at a competitive disadvantage.

The Norwalk Democratic Town Committee is committed to putting forward candidates who will address these and other issues, not responsively, but proactively, and we are excited to roll out our entire Democratic slate over the coming months.

Instead of handing out kudos to the mayor for his fine job of ignoring the needs of Norwalk, they should be pointing out the infrastructure that needs repair and improvements, the overburdoned bureaucracy of the school system, and the fact that taxes WILL need to be raised because of the policies of the current administration.

Instead they will wait until things get so bad a change is made at the top (it’s the Frank Esposito model all over again), and reality will come home to roost. Then the republicans will already be poised to express their “outrage” about higher taxes, even though they themselves laid the foundation for it. The public will be stupid enough to believe them and return another republican to office while the democrats trip over themselves wondering how to break the cycle.

It’s the same old lather, rinse, repeat.

Why shouldn’t Moccia run again? If I knew the citizens were too stupid to realize what’s going on I’d take advantage of it too.

Don’t you see the sarcasm in the Dems response? And who can the Dems possibly run? Geake? Simms? Duleep? I mean, we aint exactly looking at murderers row here. THEY ARE ALL (Reps & Dems alike) a bunch inbred political flunkies.

  • Not too happy

Why do we keep on running white fat guys against their white fat guys. We have Anna, Travis, Laurel, Jodi, Carvin. When are we going to learn that running the same old candidates is not what we’re all about.

  • http://Yahoo Somebody Else

Possibly because none of them have the requisite experience, and in the case of Travis, he’s bordering on being a crook. The City would choke on the “for sale” signs if he ran and it would totally and completely (and justifiably) ensure Moccia’s re-election. I’m sure there are some qualified dems out there, but they aren’t in the crowd you just mentioned.

The best the Dems can do is a cliche? They want to address property tax burden but also fight budget cuts. Wow!! Why didn’t anyone think of that before? Dudes, go beyond the cliche and explain exactly how you will do that.

An incumbent has enormous advantage to begin with and he seems to have access to some very deep pockets, both local and not. An effective campaign is expensive, and those $1000 checks are a big help.
He is not unbeatable, but it will take a lot of work, and cash, to make it happen. We’ll see if the other party can, literally, get it’s act together.
