Pope Says Governments Should Guarantee Access To Health Care

The GOP has been staunchly against health care reform. They have called plans for universal health care, communist. Pope Benedict XVI, said that health care was one of the inalienable rights of man. and all nations “have a moral responsibility to guarantee access to health care for all of their citizens regardless of social and economic status or their ability to pay.”

Ruh-roh Christian right, you have a problem. Your apostle Glen Beck had this to say earlier:

“We have a right to health care, really? God doesn’t give health care. Man provides health care. So how can it be a right. If you are endowed by your Creator with certain unalienable rights, how can a God-given right be health care, unless Jesus comes down and starts to open up a clinic and heal us himself? There cannot be a right to health care, because the rights come to God.”

Pope Benedict also said there’s a risk that, “pharmacological, medical and surgical consumerism leads to a cult of the body.”

Ah yes, taking on the pharma industry with God should be an interesting discussion point this week for Roman Cathlolics.

Glenn Beck would have you believe God speaks to him rather than the Pope. Fortunately, not being Catholic, I’m free to ignore both of them. Youz guys play nice now…

While I would hardly speak for ALL of the GOP, the ones I know are not against reforming healthcare, we are against the government grabbing hold of it and expecting to have it “get better”. The Constitution (not Glenn Beck) does not guarantee that health care is a God given human right. I can say most conservatives would like to see the private sector forced to compete with each other to aid in creating a better insurance product. But they(insurance carriers) maintain their little bastions of price fixing within the states. In light of your most recent screed/rant regarding City Hall and the new age of technology sadly missing from it do you really think that Uncle Sam will do more than allow free leeches to all?
