May 3-9 Is Public Service Week

Mayor Richard Moccia proclaims the week of May 3rd through May 9th, 2010 as “Public Service Recognition Week” in honor of the millions of public employees at the federal, state, county and city levels.

Each year, the President and Congress designates the first full week of May as “Public Service Recognition Week” to honor the men and women who serve America as federal, state, county and local government employees. Hosted by the Public Employees Roundtable and the Partnership for Public Service, “Public Service Recognition Week” highlights the accomplishments of the dedicated public servants who work tirelessly on behalf of all Americans.

    Isn’t compensating them higher than most private sector jobs enough “appreciation”?
    Just asking….ok I guess its always nice to say Thank you.
    To my garbage men…I love you , you ROCK! to my kids teachers, almost all of you are the BEST! To the high level admin. people at the Board of Ed. well, uhm…lets see, hmmm thinking…..can I get back to you?

    “Compensating them higher than most private sector jobs ” ? Probably that would be enough, if it was true. Do you have any examples in mind ? Salaries for local public employees are public record and easy to look up.

    Here is a link to a recent survey that says public sector workers make 11% / 12% less on average than comparable private sector workers.
