Latest Storm Update From City of Norwalk

from a press relase

The Community Room at City hall on 125 East Ave will serve as the warming center for the City of Norwalk rather than Brien McMahon high. We’ll have coffee, some light snacks and information.

At this time, approx 7,600 customers are still without power in the City.

I was very fortunate to not have lost power over the weekend. I know many who have, and still don’t have it back. I have just looked over the postings for the 13th and I am astounded at the hysteria of many of those who must have had their power, but found time to belittle everyone in the city for not being prescient enough to see this coming, and not dropping everything else they were doing to fix whatever was inconveniencing the writer at the time. Get over yourselves.
Westport had over 60% of their homes without power. Greenwich and Fairfield had more damage then we did. No one was killed here. No one was gravely injured here. Have we gone so mad as to believe that things will be instantly fixed as you wish them to be? It’s weather folks, with all of the trappings that come with the name. By Sunday, the town was functioning pretty well for all of the damage sustained on Saturday. All will be fixed in the proper time, so stifle your phony anger and let the people who put their lives on the line for you do their jobs.

Thank you, Kurm! The voice of reason! As I was wondering when the tree next door was going to be removed & wires dealt with, I started doing rough mental calculations: # of trees x how many wires down, which are blocking major routes, which are “trapping” people, which are endangering people, and then prioritizing all this, coordinating with police, fire, CL&P, and arborists. That’s alot of work! We need to be patient & do what we are able to help ourselves & our neighbors.

I have to say the CL&P crews are doing a great job. We got our power back about 5pm yesterday but after our sump pumps failed causing a flood in our basement. Of course home owners insurance won’t cover that. According to my insurance company, my All Risk insurance policy is All Risk, with certain exceptions. Why do we even have insurance if it’s useless?

    To whom it may concern:

I am bringing a crew into your area to help with tree removal and debris clean up. I would like to extend my help to you and the city if possible. I will have enough man power and equipment to do any type of tree or debris removal. We will be doing mostly residential clean up but can do businesses as well. Please contact me if I can help.

    Thanks,
    Jimmie Evans

Although the help is most appreciated, this is not the place to post commercial advertisements. Sure the blog owner would be more than happy to accept comercial ads.

Does anyone know if Norwalk has been declared in a “state of emergency?” similar to Stamford and Greenwich?

    • turfgrrl

      Yes, all of Fairfield County.

I thought the whole state was in a “state of emergency” so eventually we’ll get federal aid. Oops, I mean “you’ll” – I’ll be gone!
