Good news, but how many more would it take to get even close to authorized number ? Interesting to see that they are going on the payroll and then going to the academy. City will have 24 weeks salary invested before they find out if these guys can pass the course and get certified to work as police officers. There was a time when our police department took only people who had already been certified. Recruiting must have been easier then. Too bad it wasn’t a dozen or so.

Hey OLD TIMER it’s a friend of Officer Nash…… Guess what???? He passed the academy and is doing a fine job in the city of Norwalk. Maybe one day you can do the same instead of sitting around talking about what others are doing………. I doubt it…………..

  • What did he say?

Didnt the Chief state, on camera, that the two new hires “would bring our force up to full strength”? Am I the only one that thinks the math doesnt quite add up? How many have retired the last few years? Been relieved of responsibilty?
And how many have we replaced? If we are up to the demands than why are the bad guys getting away with so much? Isnt it a theory that crime waves are not always an indication of wide chaos, more often just a few can cause alot of damage? If we are “full strength” to the demands, than, is that not an indication of structural weakness? Is bumping up arrests through traffic misdemeanors an efficient use of manpower during high crime times? Seems to be a change in the direction of the wind. Many may critique the management and rightously so in many instances that dosent mean anyone is rooting for the bad guys. It could be interpeted that folks are truely frightened and perhaps its time to get some real work done . Tighten up everyones game and get help. We have seen some great interagency cooperation of late, big step in the right direction. Nothing wrong with asking for help. One question?
If help chases down our suspect and even incurrs damages to their city property to arrest our suspect, what impression does it leave on the ones helping if we dont have the interests to take custody? Didnt Westport also just catch a guy that ran circles around our guys for hours? Some how ya do. Hey Westport, Thanks, we need all the help we can get and the residents appreciate your assistance.

Many are “frightened”?? Then I suggest they contact a real estate agent. With that attitude, they certainly don’t belong here.

Cracker, I know people who live nearby where the latest murder took place (co-workers). They tell me they hear shots almost every night. The police never respond in a timely fashion, so many don’t bother calling it in anymore, which is probably why it took so long to discover the body this time. I don’t think it’s fear so much as just having lost faith in our law enforcement’s ability to do their job. Easy to say “if you don’t like it, move”, but not a very viable solution in this economy.

Oh please. There have been reports of “shots fired” regarding Carleton Court since I lived on lower Soundview Avenue back in 1982. Before Carleton Court, it was Roodner Park. And in between it was Colonial Village. This stuff has been going on in these neighborhoods for GENERATIONS. This is nothing new.

I love the police. Many are my friends. But somebody screwed up real bad. The papers don’t seem to want to cover it.

    Old Timer,

Seems as if you are a little jealous that you didn’t get the job? Let me guess, you tried to be a cop at some point in your life but never got hired?

  • OLD TIMER

    Billy Bob:
Thanks for the best laugh I’ve had in a long time. Sometimes, what you read is all there is. There is no agenda, no jealousy. I earned that “old timer” handle. I remember when Norwalk was a much smaller town and seemed to have a lot more police, many of them walking around on foot patrol. Every so often, I think more cops on the street would be a very good idea.

Congratulations Jermaine Nash! (Congratulations to both, but I know Jermaine personally).

I pray for your safety, sanity, and committment to this work.
    God bless you.
