Mayors Remarks:
Says that he will make an effort to email the names before they get the packet but in December there is a long list of names, most of the reappointments so they should know who the individuals are. Today in the Community room there was a Human Services Council collected 3000 toys for foster children. The Mayor was touched by the faces of the children, some of who came from abusive or abandoned situations. He said that the attendance was doubled.
Council President
Hempstead: All of the commissions have a right to put something on the agenda without going through the committee, and that the Harbor Commission made every effort to
King: Says that in the next few motnhs that every department want to come in and raise fees and that they need to do the due dilegence on the issue and that the phone calls about the harbor commission happened today and that departments will be coming on because of the reenue shortfalls.
Hempstead: Says that typically all departments have to come to the council except for zoning. [yes that is true]
King: Says that there may be an excess amount coming through this year.
Hempstead: Says that there are some committees that haven’t met in two months and that the council has to be flexible esecpially with some scheduled before the
LMM December party on ??? (it is a fund raiser)
And Victorian Open House on December 13th, Tree lighting on the 13th for the Third Taxing District which is also a fund raiser for the homeless shelter.
Finance
Straniti recuses herself on the finance claims committee and then they vote unanimously on the item.
Health. Welfare & Public Safety Committee
Bonenfant: says that because the committee was supposed to meet on Thanksgiving, and did not, so he pulled the item off consent. He ased Fire Chief McCarthy to explain the agreement on the agenda, which is a renewal of an existing agreement concerning the South Norwalk Board Club being the winter berth for the fire boat.
McCarthy: Explains the need, cites the recent rescue of the woman kayaker and says that it is the a public service offer to the city by the South Norwalk Boat Club.
Bonenfant: Says that there are more eyes on the boat and that there’s equipment on the boat that makes this a good thing.
Hempstead: Thanks the Mayor for the December 7th Service for Pearl Harbor, and thanks those that came to the service.
Mayor: Also thanks the people who came out during the day despite that it was a workday. Says that 1200 veterans from WWII are lost each day. Wishes everyone a Happy Christmas in the case that there is no Council meeting on the 22nd.
