Starting tomorrow 61 Wall Street will be the home of a farmers market every Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. The market is being run by Lexi Gazy, of Gazy Bros. Farm of Oxford who has run farmer’s markets in Westport and New Canaan.

This is exciting for Norwalk’s Wall Street area, home to several businesses like The Stand and Fat Cat Pie Co. who prefer locally sourced produce and vegetables. Plus it makes use of otherwise vacant storefront, that would otherwise be unoccupied. 61 Wall Street has been the home of the Cell City Art Project produced by the Flow of Art Gallery, (sadly no longer operating on River St.) and the May 2009 ArtSpot featuring local artists work, featured here. Jahmane, Will Corprew, Ammon Archie, and Mauricio Higuera’s work still adorn the walls of the space, and we are hoping that the Saturday Winter Markets become a launch pad for other artistic events in the future.
Check it out.

A farmers market in the center of Norwalk is a fantastic idea. Thanks for posting this!
How appropriate that there’s a Sunday New York Times article on the back to the land movement. Good for all to read. http://kalman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/26/back-to-the-land/
This is a great idea. For those looking for alternatives to “synthetic” diets you should try venison. It’s local too! I will be there tomorrow, I hope the prices are fair.

It’s all about school food and how most of it is full of chemicals – not nutrients. Interesting stuff.
I’ve slowly weaned myself from many years of Diet Cokes and Doritos and I aspire to eat lots of veggies. Baby steps!
See you at the farmer’s market. I’ll be the one not sure what any of the vegetables are…
Thanks to everyone for a great soft opening day. As a vendor, I appreciate all the hard work that went into opening day and look forward to many more fun times. Thanks Lexi and friends for a fun day!
Can someone tell us exactly where to find this? Loaded up the family and drove ALLLL the way down from east Norwalk to the corner of Isaac and Wall but we couldn’t find anything other than a sandwich sign that said “A lot Apples”. We’d like to try again next week if we know where to go. THX!
Great turnout on Saturday. We have some photos to post. Just need to finish some other homework first. ..
Crumb, if you saw the Apple sign, then you were right there! It was in the big building on that corner (a few feet away from the sign) – the one with the big banner wrapped around the top for “Wall Street Place”.
More signs – and more vendors – will be coming in future weeks. Stay tuned!
Would that be – if you’re old enough to remember – the former Merchants Bank?
do they, by any stroke of luck, have home-made pies like many farms stands?
BTW Maribeth, you won’t be the only one not knowing a kumquat from a butternut squash!
