International Human Rights Day

The Norwalk Human Relations Commission has designated Thursday December 10th as International Human Rights Day. The day has been celebrated in Norwalk since 1991 and this year Joe Mann, President and CEO of NEON will give the keynote address. This year the Human Rights COmmisison will be introducing the Human Rights Wall in honor of the 20 year anniversary of the removal of the Berlin Wall. The political art and messages on the Berlin wall, prior to its removal, were the inspiration for incorporating the wall in the program, according to Daisy Franklin. They are looking for submissions of art and messages for the wall and awarding prizes to teh first three submitted.

Submissions need to go to room 125 at City Hall, and must be related to the theme of the Universal Declaration of Human RIghts or Declaration of the RIghts of the Child. Either declaration may be incorporated within or represented through works of art, written or graphic, poetry or prose. Multiple languages with translation to English are welcome. The wall will be dedicated in the atrium of City Hall on December 10th and remain in the atrium through the month of December.
