HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
STOCKINGS
From Santa
To our troops
Holidays can be very difficult for our deployed Troops! Let’s bring a little bit of joy to them by helping us send them Christmas stockings filled with a taste of home.
You can fill them with surprises of holiday candy, socks, hot chocolate or hot cider packs, hand-held games, word puzzles with a holiday pen, travel-size toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, mouthwash, aspirin, shampoo, crčme rinse etc.)
canned foods (preferably with flip top lids), powdered drink mixes, snacks, cookies, candy canes, holiday greetings cards, writing materials so they can write home, Use your imagination to make this a special gift. Holiday decorations are also welcome so they can decorate a little bit wherever they are stationed.
Don’t forget to add a holiday card for each stocking with your name so they know they are not forgotten! And get your kids and grandkids to make something special. Monetary donations accepted to offset shipping costs.
This year through the American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary we are once again able to have a location for you to drop off your generous donations. With the help of man volunteers from several organizations in Norwalk we will pack up all the donations on Dec. 2nd and ready them for shipment to our service men and women serving our country during the holiday seasons. Please also remember that Hanukkah starts Dec. 11th as well and many of our soldiers would love a bit of the Jewish celebration as well. Your generous donations will go to brighten the holidays for local deployed military. Monetary Donations also accepted to help offset the cost of shipping.

Thanks Turf!
Okay, are we supposed to go out and buy a stocking to fill or are there stockings already selected for filling?
We will be stuffing stockings and packing them. Some groups are stuffing small stockings and we will include them in the shipments however, we would gladly accept empty stockings so that we can fill them with the donations. Does that make sense? I have inquired at several sights to get a decent price for stockings in bulk….haven’t heard back yet.
Have you contacted Deal$? They do bulk orders and they do have stockings up for purchase now.
NorwalkSpectator-Thanks for that but low and behold…I was informed today that about 200 stockings are being donated so this is a good thing but I will keep your suggestion on my puter for the future as I do alot of fundraising and many times can use in bulk. Do they have a website?
I believe so.

Wishing everyone a Happy Healthy and Safe Thanksgiving to you, your families and friends! Remember those less fortunate and our service men and women in harms way who won’t be spending their holidays at home!
Just wanted to say that the Funraiser went well today…over 100lbs were donated so far. Anyone who still wants to donate can do so up til Wed. Dec.2nd at the American Legion between the hours of 12 and 3pm…
Or- if you are going to the Legion Christmas Tree Lighting tomorrow night at 5pm you can bring it with you . The drop off place is the same, to the left of the building downstairs.
Thank you to all who came by today…you already put a smile on the faces of our service men and women.
A letter of thanks
In case this doesn’t make it in the papers:
While we deck the halls, buy the gifts and gather with family and friends this year, Norwalk should be so proud that we have also remembered our Service Men and Women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan this Holiday Season. Each year I coordinate “Stockings From Santa for Our Troops” and each year Norwalk comes out in a big way.
This year was no different. On Wednesday night Dec. 2nd with the help of the ROTC from Norwalk High (thanks kids) The Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 12, The Marine Corps League Semper Fidelis,The Ladies from Son’s of Italy, my good friend Gladys Didia and her husband John as well Carol and Jerry Frank, members of the Norwalk RTC we were able to pack up close to 800lbs of goodies to send to our service men and women in time for Christmas and Hnukkah so our men and women will have a taste of home for the holidays.
With the generosity of Fran DiMeglio and Northrop Grumman we saw our packages on their way in time for Christmas. They sealed, addressed and shipped our packages at their facility and generously paid for the shipping, allowing us to buy Christmas decorations, candy, cards and other holiday related goodies with the monetary donations we recieved!
On behalf of myself and all others who donated their time and goodies, I thank you and our soldiers thank each and every one of you.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.
Please remember the less fortunate as you are out shopping this year!
