Newly Adopted State Budget Impacts Norwalk

Buried within the state budget is a cut to the judicial branch causing a plan to move juvenile court from a Commerce street building to the Norwalk courthouse on Belden ave. The domino effect would then have motor vehicle and criminal cases move to Stamford because there’s a federal law that says you can’t have juvenile and adult courts in the same building. Which kinda brings us back to the whole idea that Rell floated about closing the Norwalk Court House and moving cases to Stamford.

The thinking that has judicial branch bean counters leaning towards allowing Stamford to house Norwalk’s court cases is that there are “global operating efficiencies” that they think are better served out of Stamford, and oh yeah, Chief Court Administrator Barbara Quinn thinks Norwalk has transportation options than other parts of the state. Really.

I suppose someone might want to suggest to Quinn to come down to Norwalk for a typical week and commute to Stamford to get to the Stamford Courthouse. Let’s see then what transportation options are available.
