Duff Says, Public Educational Meeting Is Public
State Senator Bob Duff has provided additional details about the Public Educational Info session scheduled for October 17th. It seems that it is the NEF that has published the rather more intimidating “goals” and registration requirements. But you can read the info for yourself. First the schedule and location of the event:

About_Community_Conversations_Norwalk (pdf)
So who is the NEF? Why they concerned about these issues?
- superintendent search
- board of education elections
- teacher contract negotiations
- lagging student test scores
According to the web site they are in the business of:
The Norwalk Education Foundation is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to quality public education for all of Norwalk’s children. We effect positive change by providing programs and funds for innovative classroom instruction, teacher and technology training, and a variety of learning opportunities beyond the school day.
But they are also in the lucrative business of providing after school care, in After The Bell, which means that they are not exactly a mission oriented non profit, as they are in the program making business. They also seem to be gung-ho on promoting technology in classrooms, in addition to partnerships with Norwalk Reads and the Afterschool Alliance.
Their web site, btw, is informative and clearly lays out what they are doing.
But I question why an organization who should be concerned with educational goals is focusing on political goals, particularly during a key election of BOE members.
