Connecticut’s 9/11 Victims Remembered at Memorial Service

Connecticut residents lost in the September 11 terrorist attacks eight years ago were remembered Wednesday at a memorial service at the state’s 9/11 memorial in Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell  led a delegation of state and local officials at the service, which included family members of the victims reading the names of everyone who died that day.
Rell told the audience in the park’s pavilllion, ”Eight years later, the pain of that terrible September day remains fresh to us.” At the same time, she said, “we remain dedicated to the simple principle that we must go on.”

Rell greeted each person attending the service before the family member, friend or colleague of someone lost that day walked over to the memorial to locate the engraved name of the person they lost.
The state's 9/11 memorial is adjacent to Long Island Sound. The location was selected because the New York City skyline can be seen from it.
