Who To Vote For, Norwalk Candidates Who Really Want To Know You

We begin with an open letter to all candidates running for office.

Dear Candidate,

If anyone googles your name and finds the only digital foot print you have is a mention here on yourCT.com, then ruh-roh.

Not that I’m surprised that yourCT.com features so prominently in search results. But a candidate seeking office should at least have a web site up by now explaining what office they are running for and why they should be elected. There’s no reason not to have one in 2009, and it’s not like they actually cost anything to create any more. For instance blogger.com will host you for free, wordpress.com will host you for free. If you get fancy and buy a domain name, for around $10, you can get hosting for free.

With that said, I’ve updated the list of candidates who are running who have web sites. Some candidates even sent along requests to get listed here. My August prediction is that many of the names on the list below will win their races this election because they are actively communicating to the public. Note that the two party web sites do a poor job of linking to their candidates.

This is a strange new system, Turffie. On the right hand side of the screen I see posts where no posts exist when I go to the article to read them, and when posts are made the appear on the right twice instead of once.

Secondhandrose: Yeah there are some glitches with the comments. Been trying to work them out.

I feel left out. While my website has just been made public and still under some minor construction. There will plenty to things added to it as we move forward. I am running in District A as a first time candidate. I encourage all to check out my site when able. http://www.jaeger4council.com

I am not sure that I would count a facebook page as a website. Can't only only facebook members can see it??

I think a regular website…is needed…with the facebook, myspace, stuff as supplemental perhaps.

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/turfgrrl turfgrrl

marypugh: I was concerned about that, but the page is a public page, meaning even a non facebook person can see it. If that's where the candidate wants to post material than it is fine. Yet another free way to build public info.

          Okay…if it is a public page..that works

Well, hey, if you're listing facebook pages, here's the link to my candidate page:

          http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chris-Potts/1193239

          • http://intensedebate.com/people/turfgrrl turfgrrl

Chris Potts: When I click your link it wants me to sign in. If you can make your page public then I will link to it.

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess setting age/country restrictions requires potential viewers to sign in. I've removed the restrictions, so the page should be visible without signing in.

who needs a website when you can litter the town with those enviro-friendly lawn signs? substantial propoganda should be limited to print media. afterall, senseless deforestation and inks with a thousand year half-life make a lot more sense than any sensible approaches to managing a system of 98% sunken costs and 2% variable spending options that end up on things like bike racks at the bus station.

This is true. No offense, Turffie, but I'm still spotting those "pARTy in the Park" signs in occasional places all the way up to Danbury….

You left out http://www.parentsnotpoliticians.com, the website for the four parents who earned the GOP Board Ed nominations and are the challenges who aren’t endorsed by the three incumbent BOE members running for re-election.

What about http://www.parentsnotpoliticians.com – the website for the challengers to the majority incumbents on the Norwalk Board of Education?
