If I had a news of the wierd section, this would qualify. Tom Delay is joining the cast of the reality series Dancing With the Stars. The former Speaker of the House majority leader of the house is still wrangling with legal cases stemming from an indictment for money laundering. I suppose this will give way to former President Bill Clinton on Survivor, former Attorney General John Ashcroft on Top Chef, or former VP Dick Cheney on Man Vs. Wild. In other news, Ted Olson, noted for arguing many key conservative positions before the Supreme Court is headed back to the Supreme Court to challenge the legality of California’s ban on gay marriage.

While I dont especially love or hate Tom Delay…what is so weird about republicans dancing? Ballroom dancing is certainly less embarrassing than the stand alone "whitemanoverbite" style And Ted Olson is clearly a libertarian at heart. Now the other options you list, I am sure VH 1 has offered Bill Clinton a spot on "Rock of Love, and, I would truly enjoy watching Dick Cheney on Top Chef, the "American Sportsman" edition. John Ashcroft….hmmm Hell's Kitchen?
Jillcooks: I think it bad for America when political flunkie as celebrity culture takes over. As for Olson, there's an odd irony coming from someone who pursued impeachment of Bill Clinton over sexual conduct. A true libertarian position would be government stays out of the bedroom which would have made the whole "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman" sort of a non issue.
Actually, he was former House Majority Leader, not Speaker. Dennis Hastert is the former Speaker. As for Delay, I wish he would go on Biggest Loser. BAHAHAHA BURRRRRNNNNN!
Jillcooks wrote: Fair enough but I believe the charge was purgery…"I did not have sex with the woman ms Lewinsky" I personally do not care who he has daliances with now or then,(though I did think it was kind of tawdry) I do care when he points his finger at me and lies. Ted Olson was hired to do a job, he did it, that is how lawyers work. Also there is the issue of men or women in power using that as a "dating tool" I agree about celebrity culture, but I do not think Mr Delay has a political future anymore do you? Do we really want him becoming a "looter" (reference Atlas Shrugged)
something happened with the comments yesterday and this one disappeared ….
Anyone think they'll be asking Dick Moccia? He LOVES to mix political flunkie with celebrity and lord knows he loves to get out there and show off.
Funny thing about Clinton. We paid 70 million for Ken Starr to look for evidence of federal crime in a failed real estate development and all he came up with was evidence of sexual misconduct with Lewinsky, not a federal crime. Clinton was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice in the investigation and both the house and senate found him not guilty. He later pled quilty to a contempt of court charge in Arkansas, lost his license to practice law for five years, and paid a fine.
There was considerable evidence he lied about Lewinsky, but a lot of people felt a special federal prosecutor had no business asking about Lewinsky when there was no federal crime. If an investigation about Lewinsky was justified, it was not what Starr was appointed for.
Excuse me, Old Timer, but what exactly does your comment have to do with Tom DeLay being on Dancing with the Stars (which I personally have better things to do than watch).
Probably has the the same thing to do as your comment about Mayor Moccia earlier in the thread, HateThis.
Hate This
Very little, just responding to TGs comments. DeLay was a prime mover in the failed impeachment of Clinton and then later he was charged, and convicted, of criminal money-laundering and election law violations. His phony moral outrage when Clinton was being attacked was right up there with Newt Gingrich holier-than-thou posturing in public while he was doing a female assistant in private.
You are correct, none of this has much of anything to do with DeLay dancing on television. I don't expect he will do much for that show's ratings.
