A Note About Parents Not Politicians

I like the idea behind the parents not politicians group. But, and you knew there’d be a but, if you’re going to call yourself “challengers” and run on challenging the incumbents, then I’ll have to ask why even mention that your group is nominated by the Republicans. And why not include all the challengers?

I don’t think you can have it both ways, to claim you’re not political and then do something very political.

That being said, it’s an interesting strategy to run as a team. More than any other elected body, the BOE should inspire independent thinking people. I’m curious as to how this will come across.

Not sure what the big deal is here. As a practical matter, candidates need to be nominated either by the RTC or the DTC. This group simply states which party nominated them.

Please don’t confuse a group of like-minded concerned citizens (who are all parents of Norwalk public school chidlren) who campaign as a team with a group of politicians wedded to a particular party agenda who move in near lock-step unanimity. Even though I'm an unaffiliated voter, I share a common vision with Artie Kassimis, Sue Haynie and Erin Halsey that among the keys to improving the Board of Education is to first improve communication with the public. I share a common belief that our schools need to be supported and that the process of preparing the education budget needs to be revamped. I also share a conviction with my friends and slate-mates that the diversity of experience and ideas we bring will promote an honest discussion of these issues and will benefit the kids, parents and taxpayers our schools should be serving.
