The Hour posted historical news the other day. I sometimes read the items because they remind me of just who is truly responsible for some of the sad state of affairs in Norwalk. This snippet speaks volumes about the the BOE. From August 31, 1984, or twenty-five years ago:
Robert R. Rohrmoser, Norwalk school transportation coordinator, says $144,000 has been saved by tightening the bus routes that will require students to walk further to reach bus stops.
Imagine that, reducing transportation costs and fighting childhood obestty without all that Jodi-Bishop Pullan Sturm und Drang of banning bake sales and supporting the incompetence of Opdhal.

Amen! Sturm and Drang…love that, so infrequent we get to use that term….
the thing is, though, that there are many little children who, according to the transportation dept. at the BOE, live too close to their schools to be eligible for bus service – BUT have to walk along heavily trafficked roads with no sidewalks – and they're kind of long walks, not that the long walk is bad for the kid, but the danger is a little worrisome. And this, then, puts a financial hit on parents who are already struggling, by forcing them to either be late for work, leave their kids outside schools in bad weather, OR shell out for the before and after school programs when they don't make a lot of money but just enough not to qualify for the financial help.
