Krummel’s Press Conference

In keeping with my newfound iPhone press conference reporting I have 3 clips of the press conference for you to view. The problem is that the second one is 12 minutes and youtube won’t take it in that long, so I have to edit in the old fashioned way. You’ll have to wait.

Krummel said some interesting things. He said that it was important for the Democratic party to be inclusive and transparent. That it should encourage people to debate and ask questions. I’m sure that the DTC members who spent the last few nights asking for party unity in supporting Steve Serassis’ candidacy will receive that message in the usual fashion.

I apologize if the audio isn’t good, but hey, we can pretend that this was shot in the Council chambers.

  • Ayeee Caramba!

These clips make him look like a dottering old fool, steeped in his own history, and unable to complete any sentence without uttering uh, at least two or three times. If you were trying to make him look bad, you did.

Wow another attempt to destroy someone with nasty words. I highly doubt that Turf meant to make him look bad but just like the fools making nasty comments about Mary Roman it seems that this is going to be one nasty campain season..who’s next?

It’s unfortunate, but having listened to Mr. Krummel for the past decade I can only agree with poster #2. He IS “a doddering old fool” and the majority of his opinions are based on the last conversation he had prior to airing them. The man can give you 3 different decisions on the same subject in the space of 10 minutes.

  • Old Timer

“Doddering old fool ” Is overstating the facts. Krummel is a good, very intelligent man. He is too old to be taking on the job of Mayor, but he is far from any kind of old fool. The candidate will be someone younger. It will be interesting to see if the party can settle on one good candidate without the public infighting of a primary.

  • Mrs. Peacock

The recent comments about both Mr. Krummel and Mrs. Roman with regard to their age are unwarranted. People outside the box do not get so worked up over who is running this early in the game. Comments such as these kick back to the opposing forces and truly make them look desperate and small minded. Both Mrs. Roman and Mr. Krummel are highly respected individuals in our community and both have served Norwalk in their own capacity. There is nothing anyone can say to demean Mrs. Roman. She is a remarkable lady and we were lucky to have her serve in City Hall for several years under different mayors. Mr. Krummel is an honorable man who believes in his party and in core Democratic principles. He most probably feels compelled to sacrifice himself for the mayoral slot because a) he’s been asked to, and b) he has experience and a non-controversial background. It is sad to think that this campaign will attempt to discredit Mr. Krummel’s abilities on all counts because well… that is what political campaigns do. This election season, the voters have access to channel 79, which airs Norwalk’s council meetings. One has only to watch a few meetings to get a good idea of how both Mr. Krummel and Mayor Moccia approach different issues and how they generally interact with others of similar and dissimilar views. Also, we don’t have the slates as yet, but there is talk that some current council members may be up for reelection. Cable access to these meetings allows the public to see which council members read their packets and do the necessary work in committee rather then grandstand before a camera. Hopefully, the voters in Norwalk will educate themselves about the candidates before voting the party line this November. In the meantime, we really need to avoid these base comments. It gives politics a bad name.

Mrs. Peacock, I wouldn’t say Mr. Krummel had a non-controversial background. After all, he was a former member of the Historical Commission under chairs Diane Rochelle and Marilyn Robinison – the Commission with the very-costly-to-the-City vendetta against the Curator of the Norwalk Museum, as well as the debacle that the Rogers-Ritch-Merritt house turned into.

  • Holy Bat News!

Who cares about the Historical Commission and the crazy old (OK middle-aged) bat who is the curator. How does that relate to anything vaguely relevant to the real world of running the city?

    Good comments, Mrs. Peacock.

Mrs. P: Unfortunately, the dems on this blog trash-as-trash-can in a way that would make Nixon’s dirty tricks team seem tame. So, every characteristic of every candidate is fair game. Krummel is much older than Mary. That’s one less for Mary on the Dem Trash Hit List. Ready to go toe-to-toe.

Mrs. Peacock is absolutely right about Mary Roman. She has been a dedicated public servant for many years and is a lovely lady – a real class act. And if she’s got a few years on a few other people – her activities with the Senior Olympics would indicate that it ain’t slowin’ her down a BIT!
My only problem is that, without even being able to put my finger on it exactly, the business of taking advantage of the city’s early retirement option, especially saying she was doing it in order to spend more time with family, and then turning around and running for an elected office which will pay a whole second salary -smacks a little of what we complain about BOE people doing. And then makes you wonder if she isn’t doing it because someone asked her to – and if so WHY?

At least she’ll hold one job at a time and actually show-up for it, unlike cousin Brucie.

  • Is there ever a bad time for a Bruce comment?

Been watching this site for about a year now— I am amazed at all the handy little scenarios that warrant a remark about Norwalk’s favorite double-dipper, Bruce “You-mean-you-need-a-college-degree-and-experience-to-hold-one-of-my-jobs” Morris.
But, that aside, let’s critique Bill Krummel for his policies- maybe even for the fact that he supports an outmoded Democratic party. But, if you’ve ever spoken to him, you have to admit he’s a bright guy– and he certainly has paid his dues to Norwalk to merit serious consideration.

    Get this:

The 80-year old, sharp and smart white guy can be trashed because he’s old; no cries of age discrimination outrage that I read here.

But, the younger, unqualified, double-dipping black guy seems immune from condemnation; for what… because he’s seen as being entitled to reparations?

  • OLD TIMER

Even under Norwalk’s strong council- weak mayor system, being mayor is a demanding job that takes well over 8 hours, most days. Bill Krumell is better qualified than most, but should not, in my opinion, be looking to put in that many hours at any job, at his age. Whatever Democrat becomes the candidate would be smart to have Bill as a consultant.

  • Poli Sci 101

I have known Bill Krummel for years- he is one of the nicest persons- anyone could ever meet.

Looks like Bill has some heavyweights in his corner.

Run Bill, Run- you can do it!

  • justMe

I’m sorry but Bill won the last election by 3 votes! And that was just from District E If he can’t get elected by his own district what does that say for the whole city? If he is such a heavy hitter why hasn’t he already gone far? After all, he is 81 yrs old. Kinda late to just now be up a bat!
