McKinney has enjoyed a broad base of support in Fairfield County since he ran successfully for State Senate. The basis of that support had something to do with the fact of his father's popularity in the District, no doubt. McKinney however is respected in his own right, and understands the political character of CT04 very well. He has deep, familial, ties to corporate America and, to my knowledge, is the only CT04 Republican candidate actively making the rounds in WDC - this is a targeted race in 2010 for the NRCC. He's not a perfect candidate, he's got some definite weaknesses, but he's to be taken seriously by Himes supporters, and I do. It isn’t a preference I am expressing, Anon #1.

McKinney is about as RINO as any denatured Republican can get - which makes him less obnoxious to most democrats like you; or 2. It has something to do with his father having fallen victim to AIDS, and you see the son as a victim who should be recompensed with especially sympathetic adoration; or 3. Both of the above; and 4. You hope McKinney runs because you want to see the Republicans lose another election. In sum: if YOU think he's a viable Republican candidate, Republicans should choke off his nascent candidacy with all deliberate speed.
