Dinner & drinks at FCJ says McKinney is GOP’s nominee for CT04.

In my previous post I mention that State Senator John McKinney of Fairfield is the GOP’s presumptive nominee to take on freshman Democratic Congressman Jim Himes in CT04 next year; Turfie admonishes in the comments therewith that it is not a done deal.

I throw down a wager with Turfie here: dinner & drinks at Fat Cat Joe’s says I’m right, McKinney shall be the GOP nominee in CT04.

What say you, Turfgrrl?

In the interregnum, who shall persuasively argue for any other contender for that slot?

I’m trying to figure out why you find McKinney attractive as a CT04 prospect and then it dawned on me that you might have done it for one or both of two reasons:

    1. McKinney is about as RINO as any denatured Republican can get – which makes him less obnoxious to most democrats like you; or

    2. It has something to do with his father having fallen victim to AIDS, and you see the son as a victim who should be recompensed with especially sympathetic adoration; or

    3. Both of the above; and

    4. You hope McKinney runs because you want to see the Republicans lose another election.

In sum: if YOU think he’s a viable Republican candidate, Republicans should choke off his nascent candidacy with all deliberate speed.

    Interregnum?

Mike Fedele, if Rell runs again and if Obama pounds this country into a bloody pulp which he’s well on his way toward accomplishing. Mike has outstanding character, experience and achievements, no baggage, and can overcome State Central’s new bias against republicans of Italian heritage and their old bias against Fairfield County.

So that who’d be Lt. Governor – Moccia?

    Lt. Gov. Cafero!

    It isn’t a preference I am expressing, Anon #1.

McKinney has enjoyed a broad base of support in Fairfield County since he ran successfully for State Senate. The basis of that support had something to do with the fact of his father’s popularity in the District, no doubt. McKinney however is respected in his own right, and understands the political character of CT04 very well. He has deep, familial, ties to corporate America and, to my knowledge, is the only CT04 Republican candidate actively making the rounds in WDC – this is a targeted race in 2010 for the NRCC.

He’s not a perfect candidate, he’s got some definite weaknesses, but he’s to be taken seriously by Himes supporters, and I do.
