SoNo Restaurant Week

From a press release:

Save Room For SoNo Restaurant Week!

South Norwalk Chefs & Restaurateurs Go Prix-Fixe!

Special Menus Being Offered Sunday June 14th through Friday June 19th

“I am very happy that almost every restaurant in SoNo chose to participate in the first ever SoNo Restaurant Week.  This event gives everyone a chance to experience SoNo’s diverse restaurants at remarkable prices.  It should be a great kick-off to the summer,” says Scott Beck, the event organizer and co-owner and Managing Partner of SoNo’s popular Match Restaurant and The Loft Martini Bar.

Known as a destination for arts/entertainment, shopping, and some of Fairfield County’s most innovative and diverse restaurants, SoNo’s thriving culinary scene continues to attract a new and varied audience, while being aware of the economic times we are in and a slight shift in recreational spending. “Eating out is one of the most popular forms of entertainment,” says Norwalk Beat Magazine’s Publisher Wendy Logan,” SoNo Restaurant Week is the industry’s way of giving back and providing an accessible and enjoyable way to savor your favorite restaurant or perhaps check out a new one.”

Mayor Richard A. Moccia, said  “SoNo Restaurant Week provides one more great opportunity to enjoy all that SONO has to offer. Good for the participating restaurants to join forces and offer collective hospitality for folks from throughout the region to experience one of New England’s coolest dining and entertainment settings—all at a very attractive price. I encourage citizens far and wide to join us for a fabulous meal, a stroll along our beautiful waterfront, and experience the art, culture and friendliness that make Norwalk such a pleasurable place to be.”

Participating restaurants will be serving their regular menus but will also feature a 3-course prix-fixe menu for lunch and dinner. Beverages, tax, and gratuity are not included. Lunch is $16.40 (the year Norwalk was founded) and Dinner is $29.95. Restaurants include:

Prix Fixe? 29.95? I think a burger, coke and tip comes to less than $16.49 at Burger Bar for dinner…..A slight shift in recreational spending? I don’t want some of what this press release writer is on. But the quote from porn star Scott Beck juxtaposed with Mayer Moccha is worth the price of submission.

Interestingly, the excellent SoNo Mexican restaurant El Acapulco, located right next door to Match, is not a part of this “prix fixe”.

Maybe that’s because a family of three can get a fantastic meal there for under $30 any day of the week, and they don’t need a special “restaurant week” in order to do so….

We KNOW how much Moccia loves some of the SONO bars, we don’t need him encouraging us. We all know it’s there.

These types of promotions are supposed to offer the customers a value. There aren’t any lunch values here, and depending on what choices the restaurants give us, maybe not too many dinner values either. When will the SONO merchants begin to understand the meaning of promotion, and the old adage about not being able to fool all of the public ever. They need to wake up and smell the creditors waiting…….

If you don’t like it, don’t go.

  • Secondhand Rose

Well, I’ll go – to El Acapulco, where the food is actually affordable on any day of the week, not just during some special “restaurant week” promotion.

Instead of finding something to complain about, you should embrace the goodness…..free parking, dinner with good friends, people coming into town and helping the economy. Stop all the negativity!

  • Secondhand Rose

I don’t know where the rest of you park, but where I park, it’s always free. Of course, one needs to know where the free parking actually is in order to utilize it….

Well, I went to Strada 18 2 days ago and had a great time — and it was a pretty good price (for this restaurant, at least). I’m thinking about Goccia next!
