Seems that most of you here have forgotten that Naramake existed long before NHS was ever built. It's NHS who's encroaching on Naramake, not the other way around. NHS is the "money school" in this town and always has been. There should be absolutely no argument that NHS should give up some of its own parking to build this field and keep it well away from Naramake. Just use your common sense and stop getting ridiculously emotional over the issue.

And let us not forget the experts at A.I.G. who created those derivatives that no one else can understand, derivatives that are the major reason for the failure of the company -- and the massive bailout with taxpayers' money. They are still making huge salaries in the effort to unravel the monster they created. This is rewarding bad performance.

#62: The banking people most instrumental in causing this financial crisis received huge salaries and 7-figure bonuses. Few have been fired.

Sorry 62 - you're speculating at this point. Unfortunately, the issue you raise is mult-faceted and we must be very clear about what we are arguing in order to communicate effectively on this blog. With regard to your statement that teachers are divided into two groups: "great ones and the lousy ones who should look for new jobs, " we must remember that there are teacher evaluations in place to ensure that all teachers perform according to state sanctioned standards. Now, if you are suggesting that some teachers are more dynamic than others, then yes... that's a matter of personality. It is true some are more likable than others, as in any job. Still, that is not a performance standard with regard to pay. It would be helpful if you could suggest possible domains under which teachers could be evaluated to eliminate the chance of the "lousy" teaching you refer to.

Because most banks, insurance companies and businesses can fire people who don't do their jobs well. for educators, not all of them are the best people, they're just tenered so both the great ones and the lousy ones who should look for new jobs get raises

In the end, teachers and administrators will pay a price, regardless of their negotiated raises, because they will have to accomplish the same amount of work, but they will have fewer people to do it. For some reason, people accept that banks, insurance companies and the like have to pay high salaries in order to attract and keep the best people. Why should it be different for educators?

This is not a pay cut were talking, this is a request that people not take a RAISE in this economy. Both school administrators and teachers should rethink the timing of their Raises. This district pays its staff very well and this district is hurting right now. Call it what you want, cost of living, whatever, it's a Raise in the real world. The cost of living has actually gone down due to the economy.

And one more thing, Numero 57-- I know that people in the private sectors sometimes take pay cuts, but how many people not in management take them? So, if we're not asking every other white collar worker with no managemenet duties to take a pay cut, why ask teachers?
