We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Badges

Er, that would be credentials, according to the BOE. Here’s teh graf from the Hour:

“Please be advised that at this time the Norwalk Public Schools is not in possession of any documents regarding the education and credentials of Stacy Lore,” read the letter from Fay Ruotolo, of the district’s human resource office.

Does this surprise? Of course not, because accountability is in short supply over in the land of education. No College Degree? No problem. See: Realtions, Human Director. And if they were even resourceful they’d finance your next car purchase too.

Now, if you can post a job description that requires certain qualifications, and then lose the original posting, and then change the posting post hire to reflect who you hired, and then did this several times, wouldn’t you– if you were a rules and regulations type of person –see a pattern that needed investigating? Why of course I’m referring to Morris and Opdahl. And now this one. And who else? Yes indeedy, who else has been swept into positions without credentials?

notice the careful wording “at this time the Norwalk Public Schools is not in posession of any documents”… Clearly, there were documents – where are they – what happened to them? The schools and the city face huge civil liabilities on this one – what terrible, sad leadership we have in this city that they just don’t come clean on this. Everyone in the chain of command involved in hiring “Dr. Lore” should be fired for cause, up to and including Corda. If Corda has any integrity at all, he will step forward on this one. I’m not holding my breath, though.

If this were a school, Dr. Corda would be looking to the person in charge of that organization, the principal, to explain. Furthermore, the principal might have his/her head handed to him/her. The BOE needs to hold accountable the person in charge of this organization, the superintendent. Somehow I doubt that Fay Ruotolo is the person responsible because this was a contract with the BOE, not a case of hired staff.

Oh my God, are you serious that Bruce Morris was hired for a position that was advertised as preferring a master’s degree and he doesn’t have any college degree? How does this happen? Who do people know? Is it any wonder NPS are in such a state of disrepair? Why hasn’t the state stepped in before? Hasn’t anyone sent them this information? Weren’t there any responsible board members at the time that were concerned enough to contact the state? Same could be said for present hiring practices – of course someone did contact the state about the whole AS issue and how the board went against the recommended choice and the whole working together thing. Norwalk CO and BOE need to be cleaned out.

#3: Yes, he was hired for a position that preferred a master’s degree, and no, he doesn’t have even a bachelor’s degree. There is no state involvement because he doesn’t hold a position that requires certification.

This isn’t even surprising in the Norwalk Public Schools. Look at other stupidity that has been tolerated — sometimes even rewarded. From what I heard, Mr. Opdahl was going to have an assistant superintendency in Norwalk, until Sal discovered that Stu was no longer a certified educator. Rather than find someone else who did have the required certification for the job, the job description was changed, no longer requiring certification. It was legal, but was it the right thing to do?

The ASI position is yet another story, but we have rehashed that here way too many times. I’ll say only that the person who got the job at least holds the required certification.

The response should be to file a suit and proceed with discovery depositions taken under oath. The missing documents will turn up and some poor soul will get blamed for mis-filing them.

There has been a question about when applicants are checked – before or after interviews. The process of how they are checked has also been questioned. Answers are never forthcoming. Documentation? If there is a check it probably is a phone call with just a few questions.

Interview committees are told not to worry about references and credential and background checks – that they will be done before an offer is made (not before everyone wastes time interviewing). There is never any proof to the committee or the school community that it is done or that the results are acceptable.

Hold Dr. Corda’s accountable and make sure that there is a process in place for all future hires/contracts. Then let the person in charge of doing the actual paperwork know that they are accountable in future.

The BOE needs to shake the place up and make sure this does not continue. This isn’t the first time that they have been made aware that the procedures at Central Office aren’t sound and aren’t always followed. They also need to take responsibility. They have known that there is a problem. Maybe it just isn’t on their priority list either.

Why don’t we taxpayers file a class action lawsuit to get back Morris’ salary?

Corda and ALL responsible for this mess need to go. Enough of his nonsense and ARROGANCE already.

#6 who holds anyone accountable? I think that is the problem. Morris should have been gone long ago. Corda should have left with him.

Sorry to burst your bubbles, folks, but as long as you keep electing them and as long as you keep allowing them to get away with things like this, the BS will never end. Stop sitting at home in front of the TV and get out there and create some peaceful disturbances, march in protest, start a letter-writing campaign, show up en masse at these city meetings and make your displeasure HEARD instead of plopping yourself in front of your computer and complaining where nobody can hear you.

You’re not going to make them change the status quo if you are not out there getting in their faces every single day. Staying at home and blogging isn’t gonna do it for you.
