Morris Says We Must All Sacrifice To Improve Economy

The Hour records re-elected State Rep Bruce Morris’ words post election. I’m curious if this sacrifice means that Morris will stop taking tax payer funded salary for hours he does not work for the BOE.

“Our economy has been such that 1 percent of the country, according to some statistics, has benefited from the economic growth of the past 10 or 12 years,” said Morris. “It is going to be essential to start to take a look at economic policies that reward the hard work and labor of the everyday American citizen.”

. . .
Obama also needs assistance from citizens to strengthen the economy, according to Morris. Part of Obama’s message promotes sacrifice and hard work instead of “the selfishness that we’ve engrossed ourselves in that caused us to be in this financial crisis,” Morris said.

“The message is: ‘Yes we can’ and, yes, we did elect him,” said Morris, “But now we must use the same inspiration to dig down deep and, as he says, be willing to make the necessary sacrifices with the economic realities that we have in front of us to build a stronger, better America.”

The Norwalk BOE sometimes has a way of hiring and/or promoting people who have very little talent, at least not the kind of talent that would help promote teaching and learning. Those of us who have worked in Norwalk know the insiders who have not made meaningful contributions to the district, and yet they have cost the taxpayers untold amounts of money to pay their salaries, their benefits, and both their legal fees and settlement costs for the lawsuits that result from their actions/inactions.

If ever there was a good reason to abolish and restructure a BOE, here it is.

Havent we all sacrificed already? How much more can some of us afford?

Bruce’s idealism sounds a bit weird. Selfish indulgences idealism is stealing money from taxpayers for a job that requires a college degree. Do they know his attendance record for his human relations job? Teachers’ attendance is kept in check. Why is he so untouchable?

With an idiot like Bruce Morris around haven’t we sacrificed enough already?

BTW – why was his name not on the Norwalk ballots?

mayor was just on the radio, anyone have any idea what his plans are? We will sacrifice what police and fire overtime or is that just double talk from our famous GOP mayor.Sounds like Norwalk loses protetction overtime to prevent crime.Anyone have the real skinny on whats going on?

Bruce Morris doesn’t believes businesses should not have Halloween decorations. Witches and spider webs celebrate the Devil’s day. The city of Norwalk could $ave money by abolishing trick or treating. Decorations, pumpkins, candy, costumes and such are selfish.

When Bruce Morris publicly sacrifices his entire yearly salary by giving it to some poor family on welfare and food stamps, then maybe I’ll listen to him.

Until then, he’s just another hot air politician with a big flapping mouth and nothing coming out of it.

we are losing police officers according to Moccia and Morris is what the reason?

The city needs to save money, maybe we should charge Stepping stones for what they rent. What is more important a cop or a snot nose kid?

Well Andrew, according to our newly elected president and vice president, we need to sacrifice more. Be more patriotic with the money we earn and give back more to the government. Spread the wealth and share with others the rewards of our own hard work and dedication. Let the less fortunate folks share in the success of others. How else will we be able to fund the increase in the number and amounts of entitlements.

Obama has intelligence. Morris’s ideas are fragmented pieces of radical poorly thought out ideas. Well maybe they do have something in common. Like the $1000 check to the 40% of people without an income is part of his 95% tax cut plan.

Morris doesn’t work much as the human relations director of the Norwalk Public Schools and our local government still pays him for not working. He’s best at preaching a certain belief and way of life onto others yet doesn’t practice what he preaches. Preachers and politicians don’t belong in the position of human relations director and his high school diploma only meets the requirement to be a politician.

  • Get a clue Bruce

The best thing that could happen for the Norwalk economy is if you gave up your job as a no show director and that would save us some money! Obviously the principals, teachers and parents are handling your job quite well and not making the outlandish salary you are for not being in your office when kids are in school. Nice job Sal, its your fault this is going on!

    Get a clue Bruce:

Sal and Bruce Morris are all one. There are no differences between the two with the exception of college education. At the end of every school year they have the Board of Education right where they want them. Uninformed of the bullying that takes place in our schools.

#12 – very well put. Can’t add anything and I’m starting to sound like a broken record.

Anonymous 13: There are many things to be said about Sal Corda, but likening him to Bruce Morris is wrong. Corda may make boneheaded decisions, he may make pompous statements willy nilly, but his arguments, misguided as they may be, are not the drivel that Morris spouts.

I always love it when a politician tells us “we” have to sacrifice. Here you have a guy making hundreds of thousands of dollars more than the average person and he’s telling us that “WE” have to sacrifice.

Well, pal, MY sacrifice will begin when YOURS has been completed.

“Our economy has been such that 1 percent of the country, according to some statistics, has benefited from the economic growth of the past 10 or 12 years”

Does anyone know what this sentence actually means?

  • turfgrrl

Jeff Hall: Well I think it’s Morris messing up the Democratic talking point of the only people that benefited under the Bush economic plan were the top 1% of income earners or households.

Naturally, Morris can’t count, because 10-12 years puts us back in Clinton years, which was about stimulating the economy so that all would gain. The whole rising tide lifts all boats economic argument. So does he want us to believe that Clinton was bad for the economy? Especially now that Obama is bringing back, (Richard Rubin) some of the policy gurus that spurred on that economy?

Or is this just Morris being wildly inaccurate? Makes you wonder about other inaccuracies if you can’t regurgitate a relatively simply talking point doesn’t it?
