Proudly presents “Stockings from Santa”
Starting November 1st 2008 and continuing through December 5th 2008, Thursday, Fri. and Sat. evenings from 4 PM to 9 PM donations can be dropped off in the front hallway in our donations bucket.
This years theme “Stockings from Santa” We will be filling holiday stockings for our men and women so they will have a little touch of home during the holidays.
In conjunction with Adopt-a-Platoon and local coordinator Joanne Romano , The Son’s of Italy will be adopting 2 a mobile units Both with close ties to Norwalk for the holidays to help make their deployment feel more like home.

There will be lists posted at the club of all the supplies. A list is also provides below. Please make every effort to drop off at least 1 or 2 items in the designated areas that will be placed around club. Cash donations also accepted to help offset the cost of the shipment. Let’s make this our most successful endeavor yet. These men and women are fighting for our future and us and do not have the comforts of home.

Christmas and Hanukkah items
• 12”“Holiday Stockings”, Travel size personal items, individually wrapped holiday candies, holiday cards and envelopes, Hanukkah and Christmas mini ornaments/decorations, individually wrapped cookies, no large items as we will be packing everything in 12” holiday stockings. Remember, both men & women will be receiving these gifts.

Letters and cards are important. Get your children to write a letter thanking our service men and women so that they know that they are appreciated. And it doesn’t hurt to write more than one as they will be given out randomly. You may include your name and address if you would like. That would give our soldiers the chance to respond if they desire.

Please don’t forget Nathan Hale Middle School, who started the Adopt-A-Platoon program in Norwalk. They were recognized by the state of CT last year for their program. Platoons they send to can me found on their web site, along with pictures and always include local people. Both are great programs – hopefully one will be convenient for you. Here is the link:

I always recogbize Nathan Hale Middle School as the ones who inspired me to become a coordinator for Adopt-A-Platoon in 2004. In2003 I wanted to start a fundraising event through the RTC so I held one at Christmas time and contacted Nathan Hale to give them what I collected Nd that is when Ifound out that I could become a coordinator myself. If it hadn’t been for them I never would have known about it and for that I am very greatful because this has become such a big part of my fundraising endeavors throughout each year. If you are able to donate this year I would suggest choosing one event or the other and put a smile on the faces of our men and women who will not be home for the holidays!

Joanne, you do a lot for others – just this month it was the Adopt-A-Platoon and Pay-it-Forward at the polls. You inspire people to do for others. It’s great to know that our community and our schools care so much for our service men and women.

Too bad I can’t spell recognize! Sorry about that, I was doing it from my phone. Thanks for the compliment but I don’t think I am the only person out here that feels that there is always someone that has less than I do. Next weekend we will be doing more collections throughout Norwalk. Hats, Scarves and gloves as well as toys for the kids in Norwalk and food for Malta House. Look for the press release in the upcoming papers this week to find out where you can donate to make a difference.

Correction, boy using my blackberry to write on a blog isn’t as easy as I thought.we will be collecting food for Manna House, not Malta House. Although it might be nice to do something for Malta House at some point as well.
