Latest Political Direct Mail Updates: Bruce Morris Sends Three Mailers
I was getting tired of the Jim Himes and Chris Shays mailers. And what can I say about the Steve “Jodi Rell is my friend” mailers? Could Jodi Rell identify Papadakos if he walked into the Governor’s office? But at least Papadakos manages to send out the one a day mailer. Bruce Morris, running unopposed for the state rep seat he currently holds, sent 3 mailers in one day! Hey, maybe he’s subliminally saying how he does his job. Aren’t you glad that public financing of campaigns enabled this to happen?
First the positive. The graphic design, typogaphy etc. is well done. Take note Chris Shays. The message on the other hand …
Bruce Morris, Real Results. He Fights for us. He must be reading the Papadakos lit and plagiarized got inspired. So what has Morris fought for? There are four items in bullets. Tax Reform and Relief! Really!? Morris wants you to know he voted on a bill to lower town health care costs, which he claims will lower property taxes. He also claims to have cut a scheduled state gas tax increase. For the Health Care bullet, Morris voted to allow small businesses to have access to higher quality coverage at lower costs. And then there’s this mind boggling statement. Morris is claiming that he dramatically increased state funding for education. Emphasis mine. Did Morris actually intone, as he spoke in chambers, To fund, or not to fund, that is the question. Whether Tis Nobler of the mind… right before he voted? Well maybe Morris did, er dramatically increase state funding for education, but not for Norwalk. So if you want to continue to fund Meriden and New Haven, Morris is your guy.
For the rest of us though, it’s time to address the lame-itude attitude of the Norwalk Republican party and Norwalk Democrats in general who collectively brought us this mess. First, the Republicans should have run someone against Morris. Two, the Democrats should have gotten someone to primary Morris. Note that I didn’t knock the Norwalk Democratic party, they actually think Morris is just a “wonderful” politician. It’s the rest of the Norwalk Democrats who abdicate their responsibility for fielding quality candidates. Look around South Norwalk and ask yourself why there’s not state money coming in to address some of the more problematic issues?
We the people deserve better representation. Because Morris wants you to know, he gives public service a good name. In addition to letting you know that he voted to cut each household’s property taxes by $1000 a year. Er, doesn’t each municipality set those mill rates and subjects it’s residents to property taxes? So how does a state rep claim that he cut municipal taxes. Hey, maybe this is his nascent mayoral campaign. He already voted on it! Scary how we can read into these things isn’t it? Hey, it’s halloween today.
The fact that this race is uncontested just sucks. But I have a plan.
Write in a candidate of your choosing. Yep, I think it probably breaks the rules of who is eligible to be elected, but that’s not the point. Let’s throw a little anarchy into the vote count and write in a deserving individual, like the name on the mailbox next to yours, as your pick for the 140th. That’s mostly South Norwalk for those of you not into the gerrymander lines of assembly districts.
If you care about Norwalk, a write in candidate is your best choice in this race.
